This is the fee assessed for one Freedom of Information requeast to Alberta Energy. You will see they are charging CBC more than $1,600 for these documents.
And then, there is the hours of work required to seek a fee waiver in the public interest. Check out all the questions I have to answer, some of which require yet more hours of research.
And all this for a request that is blatantly in the public interest. In my opinion, it is yet another way that the government of Alberta attempts to dissuade the media and the public from exercising their right to information under the FOI Act.
