Co-Chairs, Democratic National Convention Platform Committee
Honorable Matthew Lesser Ms. Michelle Gilman
Connecticut Delegates, Democratic National Convention Platform Committee
FROM:
Members of the Connecticut Delegation to the Democratic National Convention

August 30, 2012Dear Mayor Booker, Lt. Gen. Kennedy, Rep. Lesser, and Ms. Gilman,We, the undersigned, affirm our strong support for the action taken by the Democratic NationalConvention Platform Committee to include a provision in support of marriage equality in the2012 Democratic Party Platform. For nearly four years our state has recognized same-sex marriage. We are proud to have led thenation in promoting marriage equality and ending discrimination on the basis of sexualorientation, and we applaud other states for achieving progress on the issue. We are proud that the Democratic Party is prepared to unequivocally and officially supportmarriage equality, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act. This is an historic step on the journey towards national recognition of marriageequality and full equality for LGBT Americans. To that end, we support the inclusion olanguage that rejects state laws or constitutional amendments that would infringe on the right tomarry. Our party maintains a history of standing for the civil rights of all Americans regardless of sex, race, or sexual orientation, and we encourage all delegates to join us in upholding and extendingthis tradition at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC next month.Sincerely,Hon. Kevin LemboHon. Denise W. MerrillHon. Rosa DeLauroHon. Donald E. Williams, Jr.Hon. Pedro E. SegarraHon. Daniel T. Drew
