NIU-Iowa Postgame QuotesSept. 1, 2012NIU Head Coach Dave Doeren
On executing against Iowa…
“Playing against a team like Iowa, you have to execute to have a chance. And I know there were a
couple plays offensively if we could have back over again, it probably would have gone a different
direction. When we snapped the ball over the quarterback’s
head the one time, that really hurt our
field position.”
On how they’ll move on…
“It’s tough when you put that much on the table, when you invest that much, when you play that hard.
To come away with a loss
it hurts. These guys are resilient; they’re t
ough kids, well-coached, fun to be
around. They’ll bounce back tomorrow and get on track.”
On what they can take from this game…
“I think every time you win or lose, you have an opportunity to grow. That’s what we use it for. It’ll be a
chance for us t
o watch the tape. We’ll critique ourselves. We’ll take pride in taking the mistakes off thetape. Defense has to play, whether it’s 150 snaps to 60 snaps, they have to play as well as they can the

hat’s one thing with the defense
-- we needed to create a takeaway in the second half. We needed to
snap the ball, like I mentioned, and they had the downed punt. It’s just hard to get going when you’realways playing on the short field defensively.”
Iowa Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz
On the game in general…
“We expected this to be a very tough game. Northern Illinois is an excellent football team
, and theywere a year ago (as well). It seemed like once Dave [Doeren] and his staff got settled in after the firstthree, four, five games they just took off and did a really great job. We played a team that was reallywell-coached. We certainly knew this was going to be a challenge, and it c
ertainly proved to be. I’m
really proud of our effort and the way the guys really hung in there. There were things that weredisappointing at times and those are things that are correctable with time, hopefully.
On how Iowa’s play on special teams impacted the game…
“Overall, we were pretty good. Mike [Meyer] missed th
at one field goal, and I know he wasdisappointed in that, but then he bounced back, did a good job on his kickoffs, and certainly hit that 50-
