The Development of Sociology

Auguste Comte, French thinker,

was also known Father of Sociology back in 1838. He incipted the term sociology and framed the the law of three states.
He believed that society passed

through three different stages: Theological Metaphysical Scientific At the late 1800s, a French sociologist named Durkheim Emile, regarded that sociology as a study of the society that surrounds and influences the individuals.
He later wrote his theories about

it in the book called The Rules of the Sociological Method.

The Development of Sociology


In the Division of Labour, he theorized that societies are

bounded together by two sources of unity.


Mechanical Solidarity- The similarities they share with other

people like religious beliefs and values Organic Solidarity- The division of labour in to specialized jobs.

By the late 19th Century, Sociology was very useful study at

its time. It was Max Weber who gave a great contribution to the development in Sociology. When he created many theories of social action and cleared that both social actions and social changes are likely interrelated.

The Future of Sociology


Throughout 60 years of Existance, International

Sociological Association (ISA) has been growing with over 4000 members in its roster. In line with the capitalist ideals of accumulation and growth that stamp the neo-liberal economic and political policies around the globe, the ISA is realizing the enormous potential for expanding sociology as a discipline.

The Logic and Method of Sociological Inquiry and Research


The logic within the Sociological Inquiry is split into two

different types:
Deducing Logic Inductive Logic

Aristotles Deducing Logic is to understand the social

realities based on a major premises, minor premises, and a conclusion.


But entering 1600s, Galileo, Francis Bacon, and Tycho

Brahe found that it does not correspond to the scientific inquiry and took in an Inductive Logic of reasoning.

They utilize the scientific method with 4 steps 1. CharacterizationCareful observation of the subject of interest. 2. Hypothesis- to create a theoretical explanation of the observation 3. Prediction- to create a logical deduction from the hypothesis 4. Experiment- to put in practice the given prediction, hypothesis and chracterization
