Introduction
Grading - with the end view of communicating information about the students mastery of the subject matter.
Introduction
On the surface, grading is a technical job. Grading has moral underpinnings which maybe unknown to some of those who grade students, thus leading them to commit unfair practice which are also violative of professional duties to the students.
Introduction
unfair practices: There are several but this paper tackles two of them. They are: (1) partiality and inconsistency in grading, and, as a consequence of this; (2) delayed or late submission of grades.
Introduction
Partiality and inconsistency : 1) variations in the formulas used in computing grades of student belonging to the same group. 2) uneven calibration or scaling of the formulas or unsystematic methods used in grade computation.
Introduction
Using various formulas for the same set/s of students makes computing laborious and cumbersome, thus delaying computation that results to late submission of grades.
Scaled Distribution
Norm-Referencing
Scaled Distribution linear transformation of raw scores using uniform units of measurement
Criterion-referencing determining a student' grade by s comparing his or her achievements with clearly stated criteria for learning outcomes and clearly stated standards for particular levels of performance (James, 2002).
Norm-referencing determining a student' grade by s comparing his or her performance with the typical performance of the group (as indicated by any measure of central tendency) to which he/she belongs
