SSSC Society Game Night entertains incoming freshmen
by Jared Hatfield, Editor Speed Council and ACMhave already hosted two gamenights for the incoming freshmenduring orientation and will continuethrough the end of orientation ses-sions. The event was organized bythe Freshman Leadership AdvisoryCommittee (FLAC) and is designedto answer any questions the fresh-men may have about classes,scheduling, tablet PCs, societies,and council. One of the main goalsis to get freshmen involved in cam- pus activities right from the begin-ning.Counter-Strike and Star-Craft were available to play asLAN based games. Although therewere a few technical hic-cups, the games went off without a problem. Notonly were LAN gamesavailable, but severalcouncil members broughtover video game consolesfor the freshmen to enjoyas well. During the firstorientation session, WiiSports and Wii Play werethe games of choice.During the second session,the games of choice were Guitar Hero II and Halo 3 Beta both for the Xbox 360. However, everythingwasn't just fun and games. Fresh-men worked on their schedules,received information about their societies, and even some adviceabout using tablet PCs.Game nights will be heldevery Monday and Thursdaythrough the end of freshmen orien-tations in the Vogt Super Computer Lab from 10:00PM to 11:30PM.Society members are invited to play games and socialize with theincoming freshmen.

Speed News Blog offers new wayto stay informed at Speed School
by Jared Hatfield, Editor Speed News is going totackle a new platform, the blo-gosphere. For those who don’tknow what a blog is, it is a web log,or a collection of posts. In the caseof Speed News it will include everyarticle posted in Speed News aswell as some which will not be pub-lished in the paper form.This new platform is de-signed to better reach those atSpeed School. Although the bloghas just started, it already has sev-eral articles posted. Another benefitof the blog is news will be deliveredfaster. Articles will typically ap- pear on the blog before or at thesame time as they appear in the pa- per based version.The goal of the blog is toserve as one comprehensive sourceof news for everything from societynews to information about changesand events at Speed. Speed School Stu-dent Council de-cides on new logo
Below is the new logo that will beused as the official logo of SSSC.This logo was designed by MarySoltys and voted on by council. Itwill be used in all publications bycouncil. This logo will also be usedin future editions of Speed News.
