Equal Rights Advocates
Amicus Equal Rights Advocates
("ERA")
is a San
Francisco-basedwomen's rights organization whose mission is to protect and secure equalrights
and
economic opportunities
for all
California women
and
girlsthrough litigation
and
advocacy.
Founded
in
1974,
ERA has
litigated
historically
important gender-based discrimination cases
in
both state
and
federal
courts
for the
past thirty-three years.
ERA has
been dedicated
to the
empowerment of women through the establishment of women's economic,social, and political equality. ERA recognizes that women have historicallybeen the target of invidious discrimination and unequal treatment under the
law, and ERA is
especially concerned that
if

allowed
to

bare
majority
of
voters would
be
empowered
to
deny equalprotection to a disfavored group on the basis of a suspect classification.

1989,

of
women
and
girls. CWLC represents California women
who are
committed to ensuring that

opportunities for women and
girls

and
