LEVEL:12-15years old UNIT / SESSION: SCIENCE- Czech Rep. VOCABULARY:

OBJECTIVE: WASTE

MATERIALS: All possible waste : plastic containers, glass bottles, tins, some medicine, leaves, old clothes.(everything should be clean) .

OPENING ACTIVITIES. The teacher scatters various waste all over the classroom. (Children must be outside the classroom)

MAIN ACTIVITIES 1. The teacher lets the children come into their classroom and monitors their behaviour. 2. Time for discussion: how much rubbish do we produce? What is the impact on the planet? 3. The children tidy their room, put everything on 1 pile, but what to do with it? 4. The teacher asks the children to separate the waste, they work on their own. 5. The teacher together with pupils check out the new piles and correct possible mistakes. 6. The children speak about what will follow. Where is it taken? 7. Children make sure there is not something on the piles which could be used by someonefor example some old clothes could be sent to Charity.

CLOSING ACTIVITIES How can we save the planet? (we have to reduce our consumption, reuse and separate what we have used to recycle it - 3R)

REINFORCEMENT AND EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

The children can bring an old sock with a hole in it and they can try to darn it.
