Gregory L. Geoffroy, president of Iowa State University, 2001-2012

The fourteenth President of Iowa State University, Gregory L. Geoffroy, was installed on October 6, 2001. Geoffroy came to ISU after spending many years in academia and administration at Penn State University and the University of Maryland. The installation festivities began with a picnic held on central campus on Friday, October 5, 2001, which was open to the public.

Geoffroy's Installation featured a piece of music written by Jonathan Saggau, an Ankeny native and graduate of Iowa State University, which was commissioned especially for the event. Also featured was a special musical presentation of "Come dal ciel precipita" from Macbeth performed by the world famous opera singer Simon Estes, also an Iowa native and artist-in-residence at Iowa State University.

In his installation remarks, Geoffroy promised to improve the quality of academics at Iowa State, improve the graduation rate, and "Challenge Students to Become Their Best." As part of that goal, Geoffroy and his wife Kathy began a fund for a Faculty Fellowship in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. A reception was held at the Scheman Building following the ceremony.

President Geoffroy stepped down in 2012 and remains on the faculty at Iowa State University.
