New Year’s Diet Resolutions

Women’s Ministry Update
Many of you participated in the Women’s Ministry surveyin October. Your input and suggestions are much appreciated. All of the surveys have been tabulated and the data hasbeen passed on to our research agency in Dallas for evalua-tion. Following their evaluation they will offer some recom-mendations to our transition team. Our team will then meet toevaluate all of the information and develop recommendationsfor ministry options based on the input you’ve provided.Additionally, if you are not aware, on Sunday mornings at9:15am we have a dynamic inter-generational women’s Biblestudy that meets in room 210. If you are looking for a place toconnect, drop in.
By Joe Lightfoot, Pastor of Adult Ministries
This past Monday, Iowa Lt. Governor PattyJudge kicked off the Live Healthy Iowa 100 DayChallenge. The program is designed to motivateand support Iowans in achieving goals of physi-cal activity, healthy eating, and weight-loss.With recent studies indicating that over 66percent of adult Americans are considered over-weight, it is not surprising to find that weight lossis one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions.Perhaps you made such a resolution this year and plan to makechanges to your diet accordingly. It may be helpful for the churchto help you evaluate your diet. Not your food diet, but yourspiritual diet.In the Old Testamentbook of Deuteronomy,God helps His peopleunderstand that He caredfor them by providing foodto sustain their physicalneeds. But He also spoke of meeting their spiritual needby saying, in chapter 8,verse 3: “…that man doesnot live by bread alone, butman lives by everythingthat proceeds out of themouth of the Lord.”Just as God preservedHis people on their journeythrough the wilderness,He preserved His wordsin the Bible so that wecan be spiritually sus-tained on our journey of spiritual growth. So the question is--how is your Bible diet?As Pastor Mikeunveiled last Sunday,a major leg of ourstrategic plan is to
 LoveGod
. This means we areto increase our love forGod, passion for Jesusand dependence on theHoly Spirit throughinspirational worshipand dynamic biblicalteaching, leading topersonal devotion.Developing our individual relationship with God requires thatwe know His instructions contained in the Bible. Proverbs 28,verse 9 tells us that God has no use for the prayers of the peoplewho won’t listen to Him.An absolutely necessary component of your relationship withGod is your active engagement in the Bible. So the question is--how is your Bible diet? This morning, in addition to the points contained in the wor-ship service, we are offering three additional ways to help youcontinue to grow in using the Bible to deepen your relationshipwith God. You can:Begin a regular Bible reading plan with one of the linksposted on the FFC website;Utilize the
4 Profitable Ways to Read Your Bible
bookmark handed out this morning during worship; orParticipate in the 6-week Wednesday night Bible studycourse beginning this Wednesday in room 1238.Take the right next step for you as you continue in your journey to grow in the image of Jesus.
