WELCOME
Welcome to EdTech 2009, the 22nd year for our locally-focusededucational technology conference. In the following two days,we know you will find many sessions that will teach you newtechnologies and inspire you to share what you’ve learnedwith your colleagues and students. All sessions are presentedby your peers, who are talented educators from our member school divisions. We’ve come a long way since November of 1984 when a groupof educational computing specialists met to share their ideas –and banded together to find answers to common problems. TheEducational Technology Consortium (ETC) includes schooldivisions in the WCVE PBS and WHTJ PBS viewing area. TheGreater Richmond Area Educational Technology Consortium(GRAETC) is a user’s group for division technology specialistsand other interested parties. To this day, both groups continueto meet bi-monthly to exchange ideas and discuss technologicalissues. Most importantly, they remain dedicated to finding waysto combine technology with teaching and learning. The end result of this unique, collaborative effort has grownfrom a one-day computer fair attended by approximately 50teachers to a two-day technology conference with an attendanceof over 300 teachers, library media specialists and administrators. Now known as EdTech, this central Virginia technology conferenceis co-sponsored by the Community Idea Stations and Randolph-Macon College. As you plan your day, please allow time in your schedule todrop by the library to visit the vendors. They will be on handto answer questions and demonstrate some of the latestinstructional technologies on the market today.
Enjoy the conference!
