Trade Between India and U.S. could Cross $100 Billion This Year
Trade between India and the U.S. has increased by 40 percent since the launch of India-U.S. Strategic Dialogue by the Obama Administration three years ago and could cross the $100 billion mark this year, a senior administration official said. The elevation of India-U.S. relationship to that of a strategic dialogue in 2009 has produced real results for the well-being and security of the people of the two countries, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Robert Blake, said. The third annual session of the strategic dialogue was held in June this year. To take one example, the trade between our two countries is up 40 percent since we began our strategic dialogue three years ago, and it may exceed, we hope, $100 billion this year, he added. Blake was addressing the Indian American community at an event organised by the National Council of Asian Indian Associations (NCAIA). Since Indias independence, and most notably over the last decade, we have woven the tapestry of cooperation into one of the broadest and deepest bilateral relationships in the world. Today, this is a relationship that knows no limits, he said.

Air India Gears Up to Receive First Boeing 787 Dreamliner

With Air Indias first Boeing 787 Dreamliner landing in New Delhi, a definitive delivery schedule for the aircraft would be firmed up soon as two more are ready for delivery, official sources said. The last hurdle in taking delivery of this plane has been cleared with the law and justice ministry giving its nod to the compensation settlement agreement which Air India would sign with the US planemaker for the almost four-year delay in its deliveries. An Air India team, including pilots, engineers and crew, has already reached Boeings South Carolina facility to go through the formalities as soon as they get a nod from the airlines top brass, they said. A definitive delivery schedule

would follow soon and it could involve the first few of these long-haul planes being delivered in 7-10 day intervals, the sources suggested. With the first aircraft coming in now, Air India plans to take delivery of all 27 of them by 2016. The Dreamliners delivery was to take place in 2008 and the rest by October 2011. But their delivery was delayed due to various factors, including spare supply delays and labour trouble. The induction of the plane would enable Air India mount several new international flights, including those it plans to launch for Melbourne and Sydney this winter. The twin-aisle aircraft can typically carry between 210 and 250 passengers on routes of 14,200 km to 15,200 km distance, while using 20 percent less fuel than airplanes of similar size. This is because of its lighter weight as it is made out of carbon composite material, instead of aluminium. However, the aircraft would be flown on busy domestic routes for about two months for the already-trained pilots to practice more on takeoffs and landings, before it is put into service on longhaul international routes, the sources said. Air India was the second airline to place orders for 27 B-787s but two Japanese carriers, All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, and Ethiopian Airlines have already started flying them.

The proposed changes are: Making language the most important selection factor by establishing new minimum official language thresholds and increasing points for language; Increasing the emphasis on younger immigrants, who are more likely to acquire valuable Canadian experience and remain in the workforce longer; Increasing points for Canadian work experience and reducing points for foreign work experience; Simplifying the arranged employment process; and Awarding points for spousal language ability and Canadian experience. Another proposed change is the mandatory requirement to have foreign education assessed against Canadian education standards by designated organizations, prior to applying. However, it does not necessarily guarantee that the prospective immigrant would become licensed to practice in a regulated occupation, according to a government press release. This is an important step we are taking to address the problem of immigrants arriving and not being able to work in their field, added Minister Kenney. This new requirement will help potential newcomers make informed choices about immigration and Canadian career paths. These changes are expected to come into effect in January 2013.

On Friday, August 24th, the Mississauga Arts Council celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special free event at Mississaugas Celebration Square. Huge thanks goes out to the over 100 performers, filmmakers and visual artists who made this show happen. We covered modern dance, urban music, art from Latin, Indian and Chinese cultures and more than I think anyone expected in one show. The best part is that it was just a sneak peak of the talent brewing in this city, says producer Vikas Kohli of FatLabs who curated the show. The show began at 5pm with free public film screenings on the large HD screens in the open air venue, visual arts exhibitions, and a fine arts and crafters marketplace. At 7pm the main stage performances began with music, dance, and spoken word. In addition to the film screening and stage show, the audience witnessed visual artists creating work in the square as well as had the chance to join in and create their own sidewalk visual art pieces. Without playing down Indias chances, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly suggested on Tuesday that West Indies were among the frontrunners to lift the World T20 title in Sri Lanka next month. The festival of Diwali is always a big ticket window for our B-town folks. This year too, two biggies, namely Yash Chopras SRK- KatrinaAnushka starrer and Son Of Sardaar starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Juhi Chawla, are slated to clash at the B.O. However, as the release date of November 13 fast approaches, there have been some murmurs doing the rounds that this clash may not take place. However those are just rumours. Son of Sardaar is definitely releasing on November 13 and so is Yash Chopras untitled film. While YRFs film is still being shot, post-production work on Son Of Sardaar is already on in full swing in anticipation of a bumper Diwali day release. A reliable source confirms to us that Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt are currently dubbing for the film in Hyderabad and the entire creative and marketing teams are brainstorming on putting in place an innovative publicity blitzkrieg.

Though Piggy Chops never felt the need for plastic surgery, the actress says shes not against it if it helps build self esteem. In an interview to a daily, the actress says she loves the way she looks and has not resorted to plastic surgery so far. So far, I have never felt the need for any enhancement surgery. What I have is what I have been blessed with. People had a lot of issues about the fact that I was dusky and not a conventional-looking actress. But I still got the opportunities I did, the actress told the daily. I am not against plastic surgery. If it helps build selfesteem, I dont think there is anything wrong with it. But if it becomes an obsession, that can be a problem. For me, I got confidence from my films doing well. Through this profession, I came to understand myself better. So, it hurts when people judge or crucify me on imaginary counts. I have looked different at different ages because I have worked on my look. I love myself the way I am, she added. The actress previously said Sonakshi Sinhas wholesome village belle image, from her debut hit Dabangg (2010), seems to have stuck with her ever since.
