What do we want students to know?

The IB has provided schools with continuums to assist teachers in planning language learning experiences for students, and in monitoring students development. There are 3 strands of language which must be covered at each Grade level (making PYP happen pages 77-80) 1. Oral language 2.Visual language 3.Written language (reading and writing) We cover the above mentioned strands by building a Trans disciplinary POI. Which allows the children to realise that language is not an isolated subject but should be used as a vehicle for inquiry. Oral language- listening and speaking- Students talk about themselves and what their personal values are, their hobbies etc. They could be in groups or pairs.POI and LA linked LA-we assess presentation skills, listening skills POI-We assess the content and relevance of the presentation. Visual languageviewing and presentingStudents should be able to use visual imagery to tell a story or write a letter. Students had an assignment to imagine a friend who lives in another part of Sweden and had to write him/her a letter telling them about their school. They could be asked to view a photo during a trans disciplinary lesson and say what they think about it. Written languagereading- group reading, independent reading, partner reading- Also reading for enjoyment. Most of the texts linked to our unit of Inquiry. -Writing- Writing personal narratives, Friendly letters and reflections. Math strands Data handling, Measurement.
