The Deferred Action Waiver Fund (otherwise known as
“DACAF”) is
a fund set up to award undocumentedactivists with a scholarship to cover the fee associated with applying for Deferred Action. The Department of Homeland Security has set this fee at $465. We recognize that many of the activists we work with on a dailybasis do not have the financial means to apply for Deferred Action and so this fund will try to meet the needs of these activists.In addition to trying to provide as many scholarships to directly cover the filing DACAF will also partner withqualified immigration attorneys and advocates to identify pro-bono services to assist activists in filing theirapplications.
Why has DreamActivist Established this Fund?
There are several reasons that we have decided to establishthis fund, with its specifications. First, there is no end to the need in our community for this type of resource.We also recognize that DACA is only one very small step and that continued organizing on a massive scale isnecessary for us to win the changes that are truly necessary in our immigration system. Therefore, we need toprovide resources to the people that are actively engaged in this organizing. It takes time and resources thatcould otherwise be devoted to working or applying for other forms of financial assistance and we need tosupport our migrant rights organizers.
Who is eligible for the Fund?
You are eligible for this fund if you are an active migrant rights organizer, and if you qualify for deferred actionas laid out by the Department of Homeland Security.
How will winners be selected?
Each month, as funds permit it, we will select two winners. In order to be considered you must submit anapplication to daca@dreamactivist.org.Your application entails a brief story of yourself, a picture and a
summary of some related work you’ve undertaken in the last year.
Please submit the attached application if you would like to be considered. Your organizing work for migrantrights will be the most strongly considered factor in the selection process.
Is there a deadline for submissions?
Nope. No deadline. As long as you’ve been active, qualify for deferred action and can write a good st
ory thenyou are in the running. The selections are ongoing, as applications are ongoing and we recognize that the needwill only grow as youth become aware of the program and prepare their applications.

If I am not selected do I need to re-submit my application?
Nope. Once you submit an application you are in the running for good. You can always double check with us tomake sure we received your form.

.We’ll try to confirm receiving your submission but if we don’t feel
free to shoot us another email asking the status.
Who runs this DACA fund?
We do. This is a completely volunteer run effort so if you want to help out give us a shout!

What is Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals?
A program announced by Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, which seeks todefer deportation of select undocumented youth. If eligible deferred action could also provide youth with awork authorization. In order to be eligible for this program you need to file USCIS form I-821D and I-765,along with supporting documentation.You may request consideration of deferred action for childhood arrivals if you:
Were under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012;
Came to the United States before reaching your 16th birthday;
Have continuously resided in the United States since June 15, 2007, up to the present time;
Were physically present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making your requestfor consideration of deferred action with USCIS;
Entered without inspection before June 15, 2012, or your lawful immigration status expired as of June15, 2012;
Are currently in school, have graduated or obtained a certificate of completion from high school, haveobtained a general education development (GED) certificate, or are an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States; and
Have not been convicted of a felony, significant misdemeanor, three or more other misdemeanors, anddo not otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety.
