Context
EdVenture Children's Museum is a nonprofit organization that focuses onimproving the knowledge of young children and fostering a love in learning in the younger generation. They do this through a combination of onsite and offsite programs. The onsite programs consist of things such as the museum itself, reading times, toddler Tuesdays, andother one time programs that occur onsite. The offsite programs include child care withhomework help and science tutoring, as well as the programs I help with; Future Leadersand Aspire. Aspire is a program that occurs everyday and consists of teaching the studentsSTEM based ideas. Future Leaders is a program that is designed to foster the leaders of thefuture. The program is quite large. EdVenture itself employees over 60 differentemployees, and the program that I am a part of consists of 5 people. I work in the externalservices programs, and specifically in the two programs mentioned before. I am close to both the volunteer programs, Bio investigators lab, and several other onsite educators.
Learning Goals and Objectives
The purpose of this internship is two fold. First it will help me learn how tointegrate technology into a classroom setting, even if that classroom setting is after school.I will also work on teaching my students how to use technology, and how technology isimportant for their own lives. We are a STEM based program, so other things will also betaught, but I will try to focus technology.I will be designing the program for the first time ever, including the implementationof technology into the program. So in order to be able to chart my progress I will create alesson plan for each of the lessons that are a part of the program. These will includematerials, ideas for the lessons, and the technology that is being focused on. The studentswill also have a form they will fill out at the beginning of the class and at the end in order to see the effect that the class had on their enjoyment of things like science, and the effect ithas on school.
