HOST CULTURESTUDIES & BANGLAPROGRAM IN THEELEMENTARY SCHOOL
A respect and appreciationfor diversity is acceptedas a shared global value, essential for interculturalunderstanding and central to education forsustainable development. UNESCO’s UniversalDeclaration on Cultural Diversity (2001) definesculture as “the spiritual, material, intellectual andemotional features of a social group” including thevalues, beliefs, attitudes, behaviours, customs, traditions, practices, identity, lifestyle, languageand religious faith of diverse peoples. The hostculture / Bangla studies program at AISD aims tocreate opportunities for students to explore thecommonalities of human experience through amulti-lingual cultural lens, with the aim ofnurturing the qualities that build internationalmindedness.
