A shuttle bus service operates between the Clayton, Caulfield, Berwick and Peninsula campuses during semesters and also in examination periods. Designated bicycle parking is provided at all campuses. The Monash Student Association runs a car-pooling scheme for students and staff travelling to the Clayton, Berwick and Peninsula campuses. Car poolers are eligible for free parking. A free Monash Shuttle Bus service runs in both directions from Clayton to Berwick, Clayton to Caulfield and Clayton to Peninsula campuses, as well as between Frankston station and Peninsula campus, during the academic year.

Berwick
Berwick is a small, friendly campus with about 2000 students about 40 minutes south east of Melbourne. It is a five minute walk from the heart of Berwicks specialty shops, cafes and business services. A reading room and computer laboratory are available for postgraduates at Berwick campus. www.berwick.monash.edu
Parkville
Located three km north of Melbournes city centre, the Parkville campus houses the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The campus has firstclass teaching facilities, innovative learning spaces and research laboratories. The campus is home to the Centre for Medication Use and Safety and the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, which comprises the largest and most experienced group of pharmaceutical scientists in Australia. A postgraduate common room has facilities including a refrigerator, tea and coffee-making facilities, a TV, couches and a computer. www.pharm.monash.edu
Sunway, Malaysia
This ia the Universitys first international campus. The campus offers state-of-the-art teaching and learning infrastructure to almost 4000 students. A postgraduate centre on the Malaysian campus has 41 well-equipped work stations, seminar and discussion rooms. www.monash.edu.my/future
Clayton
Clayton is the largest of the Universitys six campuses. It combines a vibrant research, technology and manufacturing precinct with first-rate sporting facilities, shops, a student centre, libraries, a post office, banks, medical services and religious centres. The Monash Research Graduate Centre, centrally located on Clayton campus, is equipped with a range of services for postgraduate students, including: 24-hour access, computer laboratory, full-time support staff and a large multi-purpose seminar and lounge area. South Africa
The South Africa campus is dedicated to educating the future leaders of Africa. The campus is located on a 100-hectare site in Ruimsig, a growing suburb 23 km from the Johannesburg city centre. Students at the campus benefit from small classes, advanced facilities and state-of-the-art technology. There is a strong volunteering ethic on the campus. Gippsland
Gippsland is the universitys only regional campus situated about a two hour drive from Melbourne. Eight of the 10 Monash faculties are represented on campus, providing a broad array of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs and research activities. The campus is valued as a place to study and live, away from the pressures of city life. It is easily accessible by a bus connection from Morwell train station or by car. The picturesque Gippsland campus has a postgraduate lounge beside the campus library and the Student Union Lounge. Facilities include a meeting room, kitchen and games area. www.gippsland.monash.edu
Prato Centre, Italy

The Prato Centre, near Florence, hosts short and semester-length courses and seeks to develop and expand Australias connections with universities, governments, cultural organisations and industry in Europe. It has also been established to develop and expand the opportunities for Monash and other Australian students to study overseas. Caulfield
Caulfield is the second largest Monash campus, with about 13,000 students. It is the main centre for the faculties of Business and Economics, Art and Design, and Information Technology. The campus is nine km from the Melbourne city centre and adjacent to Caulfield train station, a major junction for city-bound services from Frankston, Dandenong and Pakenham. Caulfield campus has two main postgraduate lounges with kitchen facilities. Peninsula
The Peninsula campus is about an hours drive south of Melbourne, close to the bay and the beach. It is a centre for nursing and paramedic training and early childhood and primary education, and is also being developed as a centre for health science research. The Struan Postgraduate Centre provides a wide range of services to all postgraduate students. Research students from any campus can use the facilities, which include wireless computer and printing facilities, seminar/meeting rooms and a student lounge and kitchen facilities. www.monash.edu/campuses/peninsula

The IITB-Monash Research Academy, based in Mumbai, India is an exciting partnership between the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) and Monash University two of the worlds leading educational and research institutions. Coursework options
Postgraduate coursework degrees at Monash are offered in all disciplines, and at every level, including Masters, Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Certificates. Many Masters degrees are designed so you can exit early with a Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate. In this way, if you need to withdraw from study for some reason, the work you have already done will be recognised, and awarded a qualification.
By searching for answers and developing solutions, you can make a personal contribution to major issues.
Research options
Monash offers research-based postgraduate degrees in all disciplines. And, while the challenge takes commitment, drive, motivation and talent, the benefits are enormous. Coursework and research

The Monash e-Research Centre provides all Monash researchers with access to outstanding advice and assistance to help you manage your research projects and data effectively and efficiently. The centre can give you the advice, information and assistance you need to help you identify, specify, develop and configure IT tools and data management systems and practices to meet your specific needs. For details, visit www.monash.edu/eresearch/internal.html. All Monash postgraduates are eligible to join the Monash Postgraduate Association. In addition to its seminar program, the Association provides services for postgraduate students, including: n social functions such as lunches, coffee clubs and question-and-answer sessions n newsletters and publications including Compass, MPA guide to postgraduate programs and a weekly MPA email news bulletin n advice, advocacy and mediation on issues that postgraduate students may encounter during their study n representation on Monash University and faculty committees. www.monash.edu/students/mpa.
Orientation
Our orientation service incorporates a series of programs to help students adjust to a new country, and find their way around campus, not to mention the surrounding community. Activities include visiting the local supermarket, using public transport, social events and friendship programs.
Academic support
During their studies, students have access to academic support programs to improve written and oral expression, reading, listening and note-taking skills. Tutors are available to guide advanced students through research methodology, conference presentation and the best way of submitting academic papers.

Family support
Monash Family and Child Care supports international families with children studying at Monash University. Advice is available regarding childcare, primary school, playgroups, school holiday care and other child and family support issues. Scholarships
Sometimes, ambition needs a helping hand. Monash University commits more than $90 million a year to student scholarships, prizes and awards. $10 million is awarded annually to coursework scholarships and bursaries to encourage and reward academic excellence.
Coursework scholarships
A range of scholarships and bursaries are available for prospective and continuing coursework postgraduate students. The number of scholarship and bursary offers made in any one year is dependent on available funding. For full details on scholarships and bursaries available for coursework postgraduate students, visit www.monash.edu/scholarships. University wide n Monash University International Scholarships for Excellence are awarded to international students for high academic achievement. The scholarships are valued at A$5000 per 48 credit points. n International students applying directly to Monash for entry to a course of study will be automatically assessed for this scholarship.
Faculty scholarships
Faculty of Information Technology n International Merit Scholarship is open to international students intending to enrol in a postgraduate (coursework) degree in the Faculty of Information Technology at a Monash campus in Australia. International students applying to transfer to Information Technology from a degree in another Monash faculty are eligible. n The scholarship is awarded to eligible students based on academic performance. Two levels of scholarship are available either $5000 or $7000 per 48 credit points of study paid towards tuition fees for the minimum number of credit points required to complete the degree. The scholarship value will be determined by academic results in previous study. (Continuing Monash international students, who are not recipients of the FIT International Merit Scholarship and have completed one semester or at least a minimum of 18 credit points of an IT degree, achieving an overall high distinction average of 80% or above, will be eligible to receive the Level One value of the FIT International Merit Scholarship.) n International students applying directly to Monash for entry to a course of study will be automatically assessed for these scholarships. New-to-course International applicants who have not met the eligibility criteria for the FIT International Merit scholarship will, upon accepting their offer and enrolling into an IT course at Monash University, receive a one-off course fee allowance of A$1000 to be deducted from course tuition fees. Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. MNHS International Honours Scholarship is open to international students who are: n enrolled or intending to enrol in a full-time honours bachelor degree program within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at a Monash campus in Australia. Students enrolled in an embedded honours program such as Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours). Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) or Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (Honours) should be in their final year of the degree, or n enrolled or intending to enrol full-time in the Master of Biomedical Science (Part 1) at a Monash campus in Australia. Scholarships are awarded to the highest achieving eligible students who achieve a minimum weighted average mark of 75 per cent. Students must also demonstrate their research potential in their scholarship application as measured by previous research involvement including, vacation scholarships, research based units, work experience etc. The scholarship consists of A$1000 per 48 credit points of study, up to a maximum of one year only paid directly towards tuition fees. Eligible students must submit an application for this scholarship on the coursework scholarships website. Applications for semester 1 open August and close in October (late applications are open in January and February). Semester 2 applications open in June and close in July.
Research scholarships
There are various scholarships for international students wishing to undertake a masters degree by research or doctoral program at Monash University. Applicants should hold, or expect to hold, a bachelors degree with first class honours or qualifications and/or research experience deemed equivalent by the University. There are no age restrictions. Some scholarships cover living expenses and may be combined with a second scholarship covering tuition fees. Living allowance scholarships include: n Monash Graduate Scholarships n Silver Jubilee Postgraduate Scholarship n Sir James McNeill Foundation Scholarship Tuition fee scholarships include: n the Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship n the Monash International Postgraduate Research Scholarships n the Vera Moore International Postgraduate Research Scholarship. The Monash Research Graduate School offers generous travel grants for conference attendance and other activities related to the candidates research project. Doctoral and masters by research students who are under examination may also apply for publications grants. A statistical support service is also available. Luc Can
Master of Business Administration (2000) In the late 1990s Luc Can took time away from his job as Deputy Director and Head of the Securities Department with the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), to gain formal management training with Monash University. His decision to return to study opened a world of opportunity. Returning home in 2001, Luc was promoted to Director of the International Banking Department at BIDV, a position he held until 2004, when he decided to return to Monash to undertake further postgraduate study. Since then his academic career has gone from strength to strength in 2003 Luc received the Australia-Asia Award to support him during his studies (one of only two Vietnamese students so far to have received this honour), and in 2007 he was awarded the prestigious Humphrey Fellowship (part of the US Fulbright Exchange Program), offered by the US Government through the Department of State. Luc has now returned to Vietnam to continue his career in banking and finance, and to further his experience in teaching and research.
Mohidus Samad Khan

PhD candidate Engineering PhD candiate, Mohidus Samad Khan says the expert supervision available at Monash University helped him meet the challenge of moving from undergraduate study to beginning his own career in research. Through regular meetings with engineering experts he was able to find his own niche in the complex world of chemical engineering. Originally from Bangladesh, Mohidus saw a double benefit to studying at Monash he could study at one of the top ranked universities in the world, while living in one of the most livable cities in the world, Melbourne. Monash University has good research resources with diverse research programs. It is a good option for students who are looking for high quality research opportunities with a prestigious reputation. I feel proud to have the opportunity to do my postgraduate research at Monash University, Mohidis says. In April, 2011 Mohidus was awarded the Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal for best Monash PhD Thesis and the Kenneth Hunt Medal for best Engineering PhD Thesis.
Sindy Madrid
Master of Business Information Systems (2010) Working as a commercial CRM Manager, Sindy manages CRM solutions to profile customers in order to target offers, develop products, and allocate sales and resources. She also works with users to define business requirements and translate them into system design. After working in the Business Intelligence field for a while, I got to a point where I felt I needed a more solid theoretical background to complement my work experience, and complement my practical knowledge with a more integrated framework, Sindy says. Thats why I decided to look for a university program that offered units to support my work activities. I was granted the Chile Bicentennial Scholarship which allowed me to study in any university in Australia. I reviewed the Masters programs of all universities in the Business Information area. Monash was the one that offered the most attractive subjects and most relevant to what I needed to know at work.

Monash University Museum of Art

In October 2010, Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) opened new museum premises on the Universitys Caulfield campus. Located at the heart of the Universitys Art & Design precinct, the new museum encompasses a suite of dynamic gallery spaces; an expansive landscaped sculpture court; a major sculptural commission by artist Callum Morton; and a series of distinctive threshold spaces, including the canopy, spine, light-well, and Helen Macpherson Smith Education Space. Designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects, the flexible form of MUMAs new architectural design provides increased gallery space and the capacity for MUMA to present an expanded program of exhibitions, special projects, education and public programs; alongside exhibitions from the Monash University Collection. Monash University Museum of Art offers a unique perspective on the recent history of contemporary art and culture, and is adventurous and forward looking in the production, research and support of new art and ideas. Through our exhibitions, collection and public programs, MUMA makes an energetic contribution to, and interaction with, the intellectual and cultural life of the University and broader communities. Exhibitions range from newly commissioned projects to surveys of significant contemporary artists, and innovative exhibitions exploring the recent history of contemporary art from Australia and internationally. Students in the Faculty of Art & Design have the option to undertake some study at the Monash Centre in Prato, near Florence, and gain full credit toward their degree while living and working in the centre of a medieval commune amid the landscapes of Tuscany. DOUble MASTeR IN TRANSlATION STUDIeS

The Double Master in Translation Studies is a collaboration between the Monash Translation Studies program and the English Studies department at Jean Moulin University (Lyon, France). This two-year degree is aimed at French and Australian students who wish to become translators. Courses are based on theory and practice and are taught collaboratively by academics and professional translators. For two years, students are completely immersed in the two languages and cultures, taking one full year of courses in Australia and another in France. A special feature of the degree is the opportunity to work in industry for several months with professional translators. Candidates submit a component of creative writing a novel or a novella or a group of short stories or a play or a group of plays or a sequence of poems or a portfolio of creative works of various genres. The creative writing component is submitted for examination as part of the thesis and must be undertaken during the enrolment in the course, under supervision. An accompanying critical commentary of the creative writing component will constitute a scholarly, self-reflective critique, based on research into the theory and practice of the creative process focused on the students creative writing component, the writing of which will itself be considered as an act of research into the nature of literary creativity. The human rights specialisation allows graduates from all disciplines to choose from an extensive range of units, covering topics of domestic and international relevance. Some of these include indigenous and childrens rights to issues relating to terrorism, migration and encroachments on privacy. This enables students to focus on human rights issues confronting governments, international bodies, individuals and corporations, and to critically engage in and debate these issues. These are taught by some of the most highly respected human rights academics in the country. Students also gain first-hand experience of human rights issues. Each year the Castan Centre facilitates student internships to a variety of organisations dedicated to the protection and advancement of human rights.

A team of Monash University researchers has made a major breakthrough in the international fight against malaria. They have provided a new approach to treating and controlling the disease that is contracted by half a billion people and causes around one million deaths a year, claiming the life of a child across the world every 30 seconds. The Monash University ARC Centre of Excellence in Structural and Functional Microbial Genomics has been able to deactivate the final stage of the malaria parasites digestive machinery, effectively starving the parasite of nutrients and disabling its survival mechanism, resulting in the death of the parasite. The teams successes have laid the scientific groundwork for the development of a specific class of drugs to treat the disease. Researchers used the Australian Synchrotron, located adjacent to Monash Universitys Clayton campus, in the process of their work. The results of the teams research have been published in the prestigious US journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

This 12-month, intensive course provides students with the essential postgraduate knowledge and practical skills necessary to contribute competently to human infertility clinical services. Theoretical and practical skills are presented in the broad context of the regulations and the ethical considerations that apply to human IVF, both nationally and internationally, along with the quality control procedures required to ensure maximum success for IVF patients. The Monash Department of Social Work stipulates that prerequisite undergraduate studies must include the successful completion of two semesters in studies of the individual and two semesters in studies of society. Studies of the individual would include units in psychology, human development, genetics, personality, psychopathology, or studies of individual theorists in these areas. MIPS is the largest and most experienced group of pharmaceutical scientists in Australia. Category D
The Research Graduate School Committee sets the English proficiency requirements for all higher degrees by research. One of the following must be met: n First language is English n An overall band score of not less than 6.5 on the IELTS test. In addition, a score of at least 6.0 is required for each band score and applicants must undertake the academic module in regard to reading and writing. Tests that are taken more than two years prior to commencement will not be accepted. Details can be found at www.ielts.org n The following scores achieved in the American Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): a minimum total score of 577 together with a score of 5 or more on the TOEFL Test of Written English (TWE) (paper based score); a minimum total score of 91 (internet-based score) together with a minimum score of 25 in the written test and a minimum score of 22 in each of the reading, speaking and listening tests. Tests that are taken more than two years prior to application will not be accepted. n Where studies have been conducted entirely in English and involve formal assessment of written work in a country where English is one of two or more official languages of that country, a case may be made to the Monash Research Graduate School Committee by the relevant department/faculty. The World Factbook located at www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook lists the official languages of all countries. n Successful completion of a course of tertiary studies of at least two-years duration at Monashs Malaysia or South Africa campus, or an equivalent Malaysian tertiary education campus recognised by Monash University. Studies must be completed within the five-year period prior to application. In the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Law, studies must be completed within the two-year period prior to application. n An overall IELTS score of 6.0 (writing score of 6.0); or a paper-based TOEFL score of 550 with a TWE of 4.5 or internet-based TOEFL score of 79 with a minimum score of 22 in the written test and a minimum score of 19 in the listening, reading and speaking tests), together with successful completion of the 10-week Monash University English Language Bridging Program (ELBP).
