Over 12 Days

The student automatically fails. Individual cases may be appealed to the Attendance Review Board.

CLASS PARTICIPATION AND EXPECTATIONS: Students are expected to come to class prepared with notebook, paper, pencil, and pen daily. Students should be prepared to work daily in class for the full 90-minute class period. Students should be aware that this is a lab atmosphere and therefore should be patient and wait quietly for help if the teacher is helping other students. Students should be prepared to answer questions to the best of their ability when called upon. Bathroom/water fountain/hallway passes will be limited to 3 per nine weeks. Students should carry their agenda with them daily with their names inside in order to follow the school policy about hall passes. Agendas are the only acceptable hall pass and the student must have their own agenda. Lost agendas can be replaced in the office for a fee of $5. It is imperative that students use class time to complete their assignments since assignments must be completed in the lab and cannot be completed at home unless the course is being taught in a virtual classroom environment. MISSED ASSIGNMENTS AND TESTS: I am available for students to complete missing work or tests due to an absence on Fridays from 3:30-4:15 p.m. Other times may be available but it is the students responsibility to see the teacher to set up an appropriate time. Assignments missed due to absence must be made up. The formula for when an assignment is due is: # days missed = # make-up days. Example: If you are absent 2 days from class, you will have 2 school days to make up the work starting with the day you return. ACADEMIC DISHONESTY (CHEATING OR SHARING ANSWERS): The Parkland High School Mustang Honor Code found in the student handbook and published in the PTSA newsletter will be followed. Students need to be aware of the sanctions which will occur if they are found to be in violation of the honor code in this course. STUDENT SUCCESS: Students success will occur if: 1) The student comes to class prepared daily. 2) The student completes daily assignments and completes missing work after an absence. 3) The student takes notes given in class on each objective and uses those notes to answer the VOCATS Handouts. 4) The student participates in class projects and activities. 5) The student studies the VOCATS handouts for tests. LAB SAFETY: Due to the expensive nature of the technology found in the computer labs, it is essential that each student is responsible for the equipment they use at their assigned seat. It is the students responsibility to notify the teacher of any problems they have during class, any thing out-of-the-ordinary that a student may find upon entering the classroom, and that students respect that these computers are used for school purposes and are not to be changed in any way. This includes settings, screen savers and backgrounds. If a student will not comply with the expectations for the care of the computer equipment, a student will complete written assignments for a minimum of 5 days rather than using the available technology. Upon leaving the room, students need to turn the mouse upside down for teacher inspection of your work area. CLASS SUPPLIES: 3-ring binder and paper, preferably not bigger than 2 inches 2 packets of section dividers Minimum 250Mb flash drive Calculator Grading Projects: Writing Assignments: Papers will be assigned on major sections of course work. You are responsible for keeping current with news and events in the business world. A good source would be the Wall Street Journal. Typed papers must be not less than 500 words (double spaced, 12 point print, 1-inch margins) on how the legal issues reflected in that (article, event, study) and how global business would be impacted. I will also be looking for different aspect of your paper including content to improve your overall writing ability. Once you get to college, or even if you are going into your own business, you will be writing regularly. What and how you write is a reflection of you. So I want to help you with your business writing now so youll be successful in the years ahead. You will be told what to look for in your papers when they are assigned. At various points I will be looking for spelling, grammar, punctuation, flow and logical progression, among other things. Tests: Usually, around a 50-question test will be given at the end of each section. There are 6 of them. If you keep up with studies, youll have no problem excelling on the tests or the quizzes that may spring up. Some questions will be cumulative, that is from previously tested sections, to keep important facts and concepts fresh in your mind. This will make it easier for you to prepare for the VOCATS. Citizenship and Participation: I cannot look solely at your grades to determine your quarterly or final grade. If you earn an A on your work while at the same time hindering others in the class from learning or performing to that level, you have caused our team, our business not to perform to its fullest capabilities. As such, your grade will be affected. Every student in this class has the opportunity to get an A. Each of you should give others the opportunity to succeed as well. A great way to learn and show what you are learning is through participation. This is especially helpful for those of you that are on the shy side. In the business world you must give presentations, whether or not you are shy. So it is better to be prepared now than later. VOCATS: You are required to take the North Carolina VOCATS exam. There are no exceptions. Its purpose is to test you on how much you have learned and to evaluate the progress of the school in the subject area. If you keep up to date with your studies, you should have no problem. Term Project: There will be one large term project that will count for 20% of your grade. I will be giving out more details about half way through the term. This will be a team project and each member of the team is responsible for his/her piece of the project. Attendance/ Tardies: If you are not in your seat at the last bell you will be asked to leave and get a tardy slip for re-entry. I already have the approval of the administration to have this classroom policy, so arguing and debating wont help. When you are on the job employers dont care why you are late, you are late! Website: If you are ill, I will make sure that assignments are on my web page so you can keep up. Dont wait for me to give it to you to finish your work.
