The
authors
know
its
content
achieves
savings
-
they
have
achieved
them
in
their
ownorganisation.The
book
is
written
principallyfor
managers
responsible
for
automatic
steam
boilers,
and
for
supervrsors
and operators
who run them.
It
gives
managers the
backgrounddata
that
they
need
to
ensure
their
equipmentis
operatedat
maxi-
mumefficiericy.
It
also
gives
operators the
tlasic
infcrrmation they
need
to
carry
out
efficient boiler
operation.
The
book
is
not
primarily
intended
for
professionaiengineers:
they
are
likely
to know
it
all
already,
although
some
may
appreciate
a
reminde¡
of
a
few
basic
points.The
content
of
the
book
springs
from
a
programme
on
boilerefficiency
and
safety
introduced
in
Esso

programme
for

managers
and
for

thisbook

been

mainly by
those

in
the original

to

the

the
programmeand
to
make
it

The
book
begins
with
a
discussion
of
vital
safety factors.
lt
then briefly
covers
the
types
andselection
of
oil
fueis.
Although thebook
as
a
whole
uses
oil-firedboile¡s
as
exampies,
only
chapter
2 on types andselection
is
exclusively
concerned
with
oil
fuel
-
much
of
the
remainderapplies equally
to
gas
firing
and,
to
a
lesser
extent,
to
solid-fuelfiring.
The
book
deals
in
some
detail
with
thetheory
andpractice

of
water

followed
by
a
chapter
on boiier operation
and

Finally,
there

in
it
is
