Sequence object can generate numeric values, which can be stored in a primary key, notnull, unique or any other column in a table. Sequence can create numeric values (from anynumber to any other number) having maximum 38 digits. A Sequence can be defined to-Generate numbers in Ascending or Descending order -Provide intervals between generated numbers.-Caching of sequence numbers in memory to speed up their availabilityThe minimum information required for generating numbers using sequence is-The starting number -The maximum number that can be generated-The increment value for generating the next number.Syntax to create SequenceCREATE SEQUENCE <sequence name>INCREMENT BY <integer value>START WITH <integer value>MAXVALUE <integer value> / NOMAXVALUEMINVALUE <integer value> / NOMINVALUECYCLE / NOCYCLECACHE <integer value> / NOCACHEORDER / NOORDER INCREMENT BY : Specifies the interval between numbers, can be any positive or negative values, default is 1.START WITH : Specifies first sequence number to generate, default is 1 for minimumvalue for ascending order sequence and –1 for maximum value for descending order.MAXVALUE : Specifies maximum value that can be generated NOMAXVALUE : Default clause of MAXVALUE is not specified, specifies 10^27 asmax value for an ascending sequence and –1 for descending sequence.MINVALUE : Specifies minimum value that can be generated, can be less than STARTvalue. NOMINVALUE : Default clause of MINVALUE is not specified, specifies –(10)^26 asmin value for an descending sequence and 1 for ascending sequence.CYCLE : Specifies that sequence continues generating repeated values from MINVALUEafter reaching its MAXVALUE. NOCYCLE : Stops generating numbers when it reaches its maximum value.
