Earthquake Safety Checklist
Are You Prepared for the NextEarthquake?
This booklet is designed to help you andyour amily plan or and survive a majorearthquake. By taking action to be prepared, you can lessen the impact o an earthquakeon your amily. Set aside some emergency supplies, and teach your amily what to do at home duringand ater a disaster. You could be without help or up to72 hours, so learn to cope or at least that long.Movement o the ground is seldom the actual cause o death or injury. Most casualties result rom partial buildingcollapse and alling objects and debris, like topplingchimneys, alling bricks, ceiling plaster, and light xtures. Many o these conditions are easily preventable.Because earthquakes occur without warning, it’simportant to take steps now to prepare, especially i youlive in Very High and High earthquake areas. Knowingwhat you can do and how to respond with constructiveand protective actions, can make yoursel, your amily, andyour home saer. Consult your local Building Department i you are unsure o the earthquake hazard in your locale.
