ANNA’S PET VAMPIRES

By
BETTY SCHLINK

Las Vegas’ sea of neon, bright lights, glitz and its night people, is the setting for this amazing story. The author unleashes visions of a darker side, “the real night people!” An incredible fantasy with magnificent characters, it’s balanced on the edge between fascination and belief, and expertly woven into reality. The author is a clever writer with a sense of irony. Such a talent is predestined to influence the world of creative writing.

INTRODUCTION
“Hi, June. Where‟s Drew?

“He‟s sleeping in the basement, and I must tell you that he is deaduntil sunset.”

“Oh, I can certainly understand that. I‟ve worked night shifts long enough to
know that you do get used to
sleeping in the daytime.”

“Not asleep; dead. Drew is a vampire. He‟s my great grandfather, not mygrandson.”

Of course I hoped it was true. Wouldn‟t you?

Thus begins flaky Anna Woodruff‟s acquaintance with Andrew Lawless, the

“Thank you,” she answered. “But I‟m not young, I‟m afraid. Drew is. Oh,he‟s not a child; I don‟t mean that. He‟s about your age. Didn‟t you tell meyou‟re twenty

ee?” I nodded. “But he has a problem. He‟s allergic to
sunshine. Fortunately his father, my son, left him quite well provided for so
he doesn‟t have to hold a job to support himself, but he‟s lonely. It‟s difficultfor him to meet…“ she paused, “
suitable people; also he needs someone whocan function in the daytime. Even here in Las Vegas there are some things
which are open only during business hours.”

Now the warning bells in my head were telling me to back off; that I wasbeing manipulated. I had always abided by the eleventh commandment for
casino employees~ which is; “Thou shalt not become personally involvedwith customers. It‟s unprofessional.” But
I was at loose ends, for my divorcewas new; and the thought of a lonely, unattached, solvent young man was
