When you are meeting with someoneover a business lunch, you need toconvey the message they are importantto you. This means showing up ontime. On time does not mean gettingthere at the time set for theappointment. Be at the location beforeyou are supposed to meet to ensure punctuality. Allow extra time for trafficand other unknown delays.
If you show up early, read a book, review the topics you would like todiscuss, or finish up on some work.
Be sure to turn off your cell phone. If a something is urgent, the person will leavea message and you can call them back.
When greeting your lunch partner, offer a firm handshake and make eye contactwith your counterpart. By doing this, you signal to your client or customer thatyou are confident.
Upon being seated, place your napkin in your lap. You do not want to appear sloppy.
Give your attention to your guest throughout the meal. Focus your energy andthoughts on their needs and the common ground that brought you together.
Small talk and conversation is pleasant, but do not try to make cute or funnycomments that could disrupt the purpose of the meeting.
