Capillary Exchange
There are approximately 10 billioncapillaries in the body. The majormeans by which nutrients and wasteproducts are exchanged is by theprocess of diffusion..
In addition,
a small amount of fluidmoves out of the capillary at thearteriolar end, and most, but notall, of that fluid reenters thecapillary at its venous end.

At the
arterial end
of thecapillary, blood pressure and asmall negative pressure in theinterstitial spaces move fluidfrom the capillary.
The small negative pressureexists in the interstitial spacesbecause fluid moves into lymphcapillaries when tissues arecompressed during movement.
