The British media industry is significantly smaller than others such as Americas; this makes it very difficult for small independent producers to get interesting pieces work made on tiny budgets. The film industry in particular is dominated by American films or films with an American company backing them. The British industry in comparison is Poorly organised with producers being undercapitalised, The Kings Speech probably wouldnt have been made without the help of the Weinstein Company which is an American firm. The British film industry needs to pull itself together and find some bigger investors to help boost budgets and get more British films in the cinemas; otherwise there will be no British film industry. Importance of cross media convergence and synergy in: production, distribution, marketing and exchange. They are important for British films because they dont have a big company backing them offering financial support for advertising and promoting the new film. British films need to band together to create films, giving different companies an area they can work on and then banding it all together in one cohesive unit to create a good piece of work. A large company such as Warner Brothers can support themselves with their subsidiaries; they have a lot of financial backing to set on new projects when given the green light. British films may have been green lit and then set a side waiting for funds. The Kings Speech wouldnt of happened without the companies pulling together like they did. Though See-Saw films was the instigator striking deals with key distributors. The technologies that have been introduced in recent years at the levels of production, distribution, marketing and exchange. The Kings Speech was made to be as realistic as it could, so any special effects used arent meant to be obvious. The institutions have taken a simplistic avenue keeping it 2D even though a lot of films are put into 3D anyway. Putting trailers on to youtube ensures that a vast amount of people will be able to see it and that may open up the target audience to include people who wouldnt usually go for that type of film. Giving people ways to get the film legally offline also helps improve profits, people will be less likely to risk a virus if they know they can get it in a safe contained way for a good price.
