Question 1# The map on 413 is in reference to the way the white man moved in on Indian lands and territories. It shows the different battles that took place over certain areas and where the Native Americans were pushed by the settlers of the era. It also illustrates the vast area that was home to Indians and how it was snatched away using broken promises made by the white man. An Ogala Sioux indian by the name of Red Cloud stated that The white man made many promises but never kept one, they promised to take our land and they took it. (ref.pg 413)

Question 2# The emblem of motion and power was the railroad system. What this mode of transportation did was open the country up as far as travel goes. It allowed certain products that were indigenous to certain regions available to the rest of the country. It also encouraged settlers to move to parts of the country that were unsettled, therefore expanding the world as we knew it then much faster than it wouldve happened naturally.
