Race Format
 
 Teams of 3 will race in the following categories:
Upper Secondary (Sec 3,4,5)
 Tertiary (Polytechnics and Junior Colleges)
Republic Polytechnic closed (Student, Staff, Graduates)
 Youth-at-risk groupsAt least one member has to be of the opposite gender.Race disciplines:1)Biking2)Running/walking3)Abseiling4)Rock Climbing5)Navigation6)Mystery Challenges7)Water ActivitiesRace distance: Approximately 15 km
Registration
1.All participants are to register by
16 March 2009
. On the spot registrationwill notbe entertained.2.There will be no refund of registration fee in the event that a team fails toturn up onthe race day.3.Individuals with no prior experience on adventure racing are expected toattend therace clinics.
General

AVONTUUR DE REPUBLIC 2009
is a team race consisting of 3 membersa team.5.At least one member has to be of the opposite gender.6.All teams must start and finish the race as a team.7.All forms of teamwork, including pulling & carrying team members will bepermitted.8.Teams must be self-contained except for official support offered fromofficial aidstations. No external support is allowed during the race.9.Teams may be supported by other official entered teams, provided thatthe support will not result in unfair advantage or disadvantage to otherteams.10.Teams must travel only on the designated race route, marked by ribbons,given map or directed by race officials & marshals.11.Teams must race through all Checkpoints in order. Should a team miss acheckpoint, they must back track to the missed checkpoint.
 
12.The race route and order of disciplines will not be disclosed until the raceday.13.All teams are required to attend the Race Briefing conducted prior to raceday. Teams which failed to do so will not be eligible to race.14.The race organisers have complete discretion in formulating and applyingrules and penalties.15.The rules and regulations may be modified at any time.
Equipment
16.All teams must be self-provisioned with the stated mandatory equipmentrequired to race.17.The use of any equipment other than those stated must be made knownto and pre-approved by race organisers prior to race day.18.The mandatory equipment list is as follows: 
Personal:
- Running shoes (1 pair)- Water (1.5Lminimum; hydration packs recommended)- Energy bars/ gels- Whistle (In case of emergency etc)- Small backpack
Team:
- Base-plate compass (If you have. If not, we will provide on a first comefirst serve basis)- Pen / Pencil- First aid kit- 2 x Triangular Bandages- 5 x Plasters- 1 x Muscle Rub / Deep Heat Rub / Spray- 5 x Alcohol Swabs- 1 x Antiseptic Cream- 1 x Medicated oil- 1 x Bandage- 1 Surgical tape- Cotton wool / Cotton Buds
Race Passport
19.One (1) Race Passport will be issued to each team.20.The passport must be signed or marked with the time of arrival & exit atevery Checkpoint.21.Teams are responsible to waterproof their Race passport so as to ensurethe passport is in good and readable condition.
Withdrawal during race
22.In the event that one team member decides to withdraw from the race,the single participant may not continue the race.23.Race officials at the nearest Checkpoint must be notified of the decision towithdraw from the race.24.Withdrawn teams must make their own way back to the end point.25.In the event of a medical emergency or other request for help from a raceofficial, police or spectator, the entire team must stop till appropriateassistance arrives.
 
26.The race organisers reserve the rights to decide whether a person or ateam may continue for health, safety or other reasons such as inadequatetime to complete the entire course.
Breech of Rules & Regulations
27.The race organisers reserve the right to impose penalties or disqualifyteams for breach of race rules.28.Penalties for breach of rules may include: 
 
a) time penalties added to a team’s finished timeb) delay start or stop a team during the racec) requesting the team to repeat a particular segment of the race29.The race organisers reserve the right to amend any part of the Rules andRegulations without prior notice.30.Decisions by the race organisers are final, and no appeal shall beentertained.
Health & Race Safety
31.Every participant is responsible for his/her involvement in the race.32.The race organisers reserve the right, with the consultation of a doctor, toprohibit a participant from starting or continuing the race.33.The race organisers will not be liable for injuries, mishaps, sickness, deathor loss/damage to personal property that may occur during the race.34.Participants who are unclear about their health condition to participate inthis race are advised to consult a licensed practitioner prior to signing up.35.Participants should ensure that they are well-rested prior to race day andare well hydrated on the race day.36.Participants are advised to equip themselves with food, drinks orsupplements during the course of the race.37.Water points will be made available at designated checkpoints for teamsto refill their water.38.If a participant feels unwell during the race, he/she should seek immediateattention from race officials along the race route.39.The race organisers will provide First Aid service during the race. There willbe designated first aid post and ambulances stationed along the raceroute.40.In the event of a medical emergency or other request for help, the entireteam must stop till appropriate and effective assistance arrives at thescene.41.Ambulance evacuation is strictly reserved for the seriously sick andinjured.
The Race Route
42.In the absence of race officials, teams must look out for signs, arrows,ribbons and other markers.43.Teams are responsible for(a) Staying on the course;(b) Slowing down to pay attention to course markings and theirinstructions/ directions44.Teams must race through all Checkpoints in order. Should a team miss acheckpoint, they must back track to the missed checkpoint.45.The race route and order of disciplines will not be disclosed until the raceday.
