Role of the Ground Team Ldr.

Leader: Control the actions of the team when on a mission. Manager: Responsible for development and training of the team

The GTL delegates tasks to the team members. He does not do all of them himself.

Be

knowledgeable in plotting, triangulation, lat. & long. system. Know how to read a road map.

During the Sortie

Data Recorders

Understand

the role and function of the data recorder Have necessary equipment Develop legible writing

Sign

in - Prepare for immediate deployment Prepare team copy of general SAR/DR briefing form Obtain and record weather information Obtain local law enforcement / emergency phone #'s

Data Recorders - on the Mission


Record time departed & at major waypoints Record time, location and bearing of DR readings Record time DF first heard Record SARSAT and ELT hits Record radio messages and radio check-ins Record orders relayed via radio Record interview information Record ramp search information Maintain all mission paperwork

Remain calm Stay put Record time GTL declares area safe or unsafe Record patient vital signs if required (relayed by medics) Sketch and/or photograph the crash site Record ELT info

Medics

Before the Mission


Obtain

medical history of team members Obtain BBP training

At the Mission Base


Sign

in and prepare for immediate departure Obtain medical info on additions to the team

Insure

safety of team members Treat minor injuries Maintain medical log

At the Find
Remain

calm and stay put After GTL declares area safe, determine with the GTL, if first aid is needed. Coordinate with local emergency medical agencies

At Mission Conclusion
Evaluate Team Performance Develop additional training plans to address deficiencies Prepare for next mission.
