The function of images


Images have 4 different functions:

They inform in a clear and direct way. Identifying things: logos, labels, flags.

Images and reality


An image can be a copy or an imitation of the reality, but also something without anything in common with reality. We have three types of images: Realistic images Figurative images Abstract images
Realistic style: 1967 Washbasin and mirror by Antonio Lpez

Figurative image: The shout, by Edvard Munch,1893.

Activities
Activity 1: Find in google images or FlickCC one image for every function we have talked about (information, exhortation, enjoyment, aesthetics). Download the slides and paste the images in. Send the result by e-mail to the address: eviprocaprevera@gmail.com

Activities
Activity 2: Modifying images. Change the shape of an image cutting away and sticking. The result must be recognizable. The aim of the activity is to get new shapes, fantastic and unreal, made by usual shapes.
