July 23, 2012Dear Students and Parents,Welcome to another exciting school year. I hope that you have had a relaxing summer andare ready for school. I am happy to begin my third year as the principal of Lincoln MiddleSchool and to have Mrs. Julie Gilles as my assistant principal, as well as introduce Ms.Cenithia Tice as my second assistant principal. All three of us are committed to servingyou.There have been a lot of changes due to construction. As a result, the entire office areahas been redesigned and parking lots and bus circles are newly designed. Irving Primarywill close in December and those students and staff will begin the second semester atLincoln in the new wing.The staff remains committed to ensuring that the time students spend in the classroom ismeaningful and full of many interesting activities that challenge the minds of all students.P.B.I.S and A.V.I.D are programs that will continue and all students will have access tovarious types of technology such as Nooks (digital books) and iPads during the schoolyear.Open House is on August 17
th

Backpack Peoria and Parent University Kick-Off
 We have been busy promoting and hope you have already heard about this exciting event. If not, PeoriaPublic Schools is teaming up with Dream Center Peoria for Backpack Peoria. Families are encouraged tovisit the Dream Center Peoria on Saturday, July 28, 2012 (714 Hamilton Blvd # 200) between 9:00 a.m.and 2:00 p.m. Families will have access to community resources, students will receive backpacks filledwith school supplies, medical providers will be available for medical and dental screenings, school andDistrict staff will be on hand to answer registration or other questions. We will also kick-off ParentUniversity just prior to the school year starting. Parent University is a resource for parents and guardiansthat will provide trainings and information throughout the school year on topics not only associated witheducation, but also community resources. This year, we are excited to welcome Dr. Steve Perry as ourguest speaker for this special event. Please see the flyer included in this packet to learn more about thisevent and Dr. Perry. Registration

nly new students and incoming freshmen need to pre-register for the 2012-2013 schoolyear. Registration dates for these students will be August 13th from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and August14th from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the student's new school. Families of sixth grade students may alsoturn in physical exam paperwork during this time. Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to havemedical requirements documented at the school on the first day of classes.On August 20th, 2012 (the first day of school full day for all students), each child will be sent home witha registration packet that will include an emergency contact form, photo release form, internet usage form,District calendar/handbook and information from the student's teacher and school. Families are asked toread through, fill out and sign the forms in this packet and return them to the student's school by August24th.3.
Pay School Fees Online

kyward Family Access allows families to pay school fees online. This year,Family Access will be the only option to make online payments. If your family has not signed up for FamilyAccess, call our Accountability and Research Department at 672-6761 to sign up today! Once your familyhas a username and password, you can login to Family Access by visiting www.psd150.org and clicking on the
 
Family Access icon in the top right corner. Once logged in, families can make payments, checkgrades, update contact information and more. You can learn more about making payments by reading theinformation included in this back to school packet. One change to look forward to, is that you will soon beable to pay for multiple students in one transaction!4.
Compass Learning

any families have used Compass Learning, an online resource for students towork on skills that have been identified as needing improvement and/or accelerating in order to keepthe learning process going, even when the student is not at school. School computer labs were open thissummer and many students participated in Compass Learning activities. This program is also used in ourclassrooms throughout the school year. It is a fun, interactive tool to help your child improve or advance indifferent content areas. Compass Learning links to each of our students testing scores (NWEA) tochallenge them in the most appropriate areas. All students and parents should have separate logins.
