Diplomacy from 1945 to 1947
After the Second World War the territorial disposition of Kars and Ardahan, situated
between Turkey and the Soviet Union, became an issue of International diplomacy. The
growing role of the USSR in world politics forced the United States to take measures to
combat the Soviet Union's rising power.
This article describes the development of Turkish-American relations, their evolution in
the period from 1945 to 1947, and the broader interests of the United States in the
Middle East. It particularly focuses on the geopolitical and strategic importance of Kars
and Ardahan regions in the strategy of the United States during the Cold War period.
This article is based primarily upon archival source of the U.S Department of State.
