Afghanistan’s front lines in combat against Northern Alliance and US and Coalition forces.Detainee possibly served as an interrogator for al-Qaida and Taliban forces. Detaineeadmitted he received militant training at the al-Faruq Training Camp on the AK-47 assaultrifle, Beka machine guns, and mortars. Detainee is a veteran militant with combatexperience dating back to the 1980s, when he fought Soviet occupation forces inAfghanistan. Detainee has resisted cooperation with interrogators and remains largelyunexploited. He has coached other JTF-GTMO detainees to use resistance techniques whilein US custody. JTF-GTMO determined this detainee to be:

Detainee has provided varying accounts of when and where he was born. He initially claimed to be Yemeni, but later admitted he was born in Port Sudan.

(S//NF) Recruitment and Travel:b.
 
Detainee reported the reason for his last trip toAfghanistan was to teach the Koran to children. Detainee traveled from Sudan to Karachi,Pakistan (PK), via Qatar Airlines. He traveled to Quetta, PK and then made his way toKandahar, AF.

(S//NF) Training and Activities:c.
 
Upon arrival in Kandahar, detainee spent five days ina government guesthouse. Detainee then attended the al-Faruq Training Camp wherehereceived militant training on the AK-47 assault rifle, Beka machine guns, and mortars.

Inaddition to being a trainee, detainee also admitted being the clinical doctor at the camp.After six months of living in a house next to the training camp mosque, detainee learnedfighting was taking place near Bagram, so he traveled there and spent almost two yearsfighting with the Taliban against the Northern Alliance. During that time, detaineeconfirmed he killed members of the Northern Alliance in battle while attacking or beingattacked. Detainee stated he was in Bagram when the US started bombing Afghanistan. Dueto the severity of the bombing, detainee fled to Pakistan.

(U) Capture Information:a.
 
(S//NF) Detainee was captured by Pakistani forces on 15 December while attempting tocross the Afghanistan-Pakistan border near Parachinar, PK after fleeing to the Tora BoraMountains. Detainee was captured with a group of 31 other Arab al-Qaida fighters referredto by US intelligence reporting as the Dirty 30. Most of the Dirty 30 are assessed to be UBL bodyguards and other members of UBL’s security detail.

Pakistani authorities transferredthe group to a prison facility in Peshawar, PK where they were held for 15 days.

On 26December 2001, Pakistani authorities transferred detainee from Peshawar to US custody atthe Kandahar Detention Facility.
