R
ecently, some of us fromTrimble Navigation, an ITcompany in Tidel Park, vol-unteered to visit Hands of Compassion, a home-cum-school. The place shelters about110 children, between the age of two and 16 years, from Tamil Na-du, Gujarat, Manipur, Assam and Andaman. All these children are victims of the earthquakes, the tsunami andterrorist attacks.Preparation for the visit starteda couple of weeks ago. One of Trimble employees went to theorphanage and gathered detailson what was required for the chil-dren. We pooled in cash and essen-tials like sleeping mats, bedsheets, towels, dresses, shoes, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pillows, toys, notebooks, crayons, etc., along with cash.It was an occasion to remem-ber. We spent quality time withchildren, conducted games anddistributed eatables. It was fun tosee them participate so actively. We were told that the money we contributed would be used toprovide care to children suffering from certain deficiencies. Also, for eye and dental check ups as well as to purchase medicines. If you think you would like tomake a difference in their lives, please contact Sumathy (orphan-age representative) at 9283122472. Or, visit Hands of Com-passion, Vaanian Chathiram,Redhills, Alamathi Road, Chennai– 600054.

The ideal pair
These days, the husband of asenior lady police officer, who is alawyer, is working together withhis wife to make some big bucks. The man is known to be referring ‘lucrative’ cases to the wife andvice-versa. It is also known thatthe lady cop even refers complai-nants to her hubby for a compro-mise, all for a fee. Police circlesrefer to the duo as the idealcouple.
A cop’s paltrapped
A smuggler, who was out onbail sometime ago, started an ITfirm with another cyber crime ac-cused he met in prison. Recently, the former was in the news afterhe was arrested on charges of threatening a computer agent.Reliable sources say the man isgood friends with a top cop in thesuburbs. Therefore, the victim’scomplaint wasn’t accepted there.Following the victim’s complaintto the city police, a case wasbooked against the accused as if the crime had happened in thecity limits and he was later sent toprison.
Breathing a sighof relief
The present top cop of the city is a little publicity-shy comparedto his predecessor, who preferredto be in the spotlight most of thetime. As a result, the PR depart-ment staff of the CoP office isbreathing a sigh of relief – amuch-needed break from regularpress meets and camera unveil-ing ceremonies in the city.
Juvenile watch
Police have launched an oper-ation to keep track of juvenile of-fenders released from juvenilehomes to monitor their activities. An officer is appointed to keeptrack of nearly 200 teenagers. Thesurveillance system to watch for-mer juvenile offenders is on pa-per but was never implementedtill recently.
