JAMES ASHBY STATEMENT 3 OCT 2012 Unfortunately, the mediation held today was not successful. Mr.

Ashby did attend in person. Anything that occurred during today's mediation cannot be disclosed. As announced last week by the Commonwealth, they agreed to settle its abuse of p rocess case against Mr. Ashby, pledging to introduce training for MPs in the are a of sexual harassment and to pay Mr. Ashby $50,000. Mr. Ashby has consistently maintained that his motivations in bringing the case were: to stop Mr Slipper s conduct against him; to prevent recurrence of that conduct in relation to parliamentary staff, curren t or future; and not about money. The case will now return to the Federal Court tomorrow to proceed against Mr.Sli pper and to hold the Commonwealth to the settlement they offered and we accepted .
