For many homeowners, the safety of their family is their first priority. This is whymany homeowners have chosen to have a home security system installed to protectboth their families and their belongings. With all of the different types of homesecurity systems that are one the market, how will a homeowner know which homesecurity system is right for them? Or for that matter, what do homeowners reallyknow about home security? Let’s take a closer look to help educate you on it.Home security really is made up mainly of the alarm system and there are a numberof important components to an alarm system. At the heart of the alarm system isthe control panel and this is one of the most important home security productsavailable. All of the wiring for the other home security products comes together atthe control panel and the entire system is tied together at this location. Without thisvaluable component, the security system would not function properly. The keypad is another piece of equipment and really is the main controlling unit of the alarm system as a whole. This is where you would interact with the system toturn it on, program it and turn it off. The keypad is also where the system displaysmessages for the homeowners. If someone broke into your house or if one of yourhome security products is broken, the keypad will display all of this information foryou.Access control sensors are the “sensing” portion of the home security system. These home security products are used to detect if a door or window is open or hasbeen opened. When these sensors are triggered, the alarm will go off and notify anymonitoring center it is tied to. The last component is an audible alarm and/or strobe lights that may be used asaudible and visual deterrents to the intruder. The importance of these componentsis that they alert the homeowners as well as everyone else in the vicinity that anintrusion has occurred. So how does a homesecurity systemwork? Well what happens is that you willusually consult with an accredited professional who knows how to assess yourhome. There are a number of different areas that need to be taken care of. Mainly, the standard entry ways will come first such as doors and basement entrances. Then the “possible” entry ways will be assessed, these are mainly windows but insome cases it may be other trap doors. It is necessary to find out what you willNEED and then what you will WANT.Once your actual needs are determined you will be educated on the actualequipment that can help secure these areas. For doors and windows there aremainly contacts and/or glass breaks. Sometimes motion sensors are used
