Improvements in education start with engaging and open conversations across our community. The global TEDx movement has been spreading with popularity throughout Knoxville since 2011. Join us and watch TEDx videos about science, technology, and education and help us launch a community-wide effort to showcase regional thought leaders on the best ways to innovate the 21st century classroom. What: TEDx Social Mixer (no alcohol will be served) When: Friday, October 12, 2012 Where: L&N STEM Academy - Main Hall Time: 6:30pm doors open, starts 7pm - 7:50pm Who: Leaders in education & local government are invited. Future TEDx speakers and volunteers will be present. The Press, students, parents and teachers are encouraged to attend.

What is TED?
TED is a nonprot devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. TED holds two annual TED conferences, in Long Beach/Palm Springs and Edinburgh, Scotland that bring together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes or less). On TED.com, the best talks and performances from TED and partners are available to the world, for free. More than 900 TEDTalks are now available, with more added each week. All of the talks are subtitled in English, and many are subtitled in various languages.

What is TEDx?
TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, "ideas worth spreading." The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. At TEDx events, a screening of TEDTalks videos or a combination of live presenters and TEDTalks videos sparks deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-bycommunity basis.
