So you want to learn how to speak a foreign language?It can be a daunting task ,starting to learn anything,never mind a new language,believe me I know, I've been round the world many times, and at first you think toyourself, most people speak English, so why worry, and this is true for the mostpart. But I've been to very many weird and wonderful places ,where even the mostbasic hand signals will get you in trouble.So ,after a while I decided to start to actually learn a foreign language, itdoesn't matter which one you start on, it's the thought process that helps you inthe long run,not the individual language.It's not easy, I know but what a feelingwhen you can start to actually understand someone in their own language,ratherthan trying to use broken English or hand signals.When it comes down to it , gaining any type of knowledge must come from someonewho knows. LISTEN - to the Locals talking.You know, we all go to foreign places,and try to do what we want, but if you wantto learn a new language, then you have to Listen.Instead of propping up the localbar, and talking to your friends, try listening to the locals, and join in, in afriendly way of course, believe me when I say they will thank you for speakingtheir language.3. READ -Foreign newspapers,books,magazines.You won't understand all or any of a new language unless you see it written down,pick up one of the local newspapers, you can usually start with seeing the mainpage picture,and headline, maybe its about a celebrity you know, and you can thenpick up bits and bobs from there.If not, get out the phrase book, or better stilluse it as a conversation opener with one of the locals.4. LEARN - If you need help ask !I know it's not easy getting started in learning anything new, but as theysay,everything starts with that first step.
