Male chicks in the egg industry are shredded alive, freerange hens are packed into huge warehouses and killed after little more than a year, pigs and sheep in organic Soil Association-approved slaughterhouses have been filmed being kicked, hit and forcibly thrown.
A recent investigation showed chicks being gassed or shredded alive because they are male and can't lay eggs. A staggering 30 million chicks are killed this way every year. All egg-laying hens, including free-range and organic are slaughter ed when they can no longer lay eggs fast enough, at around 80 weeks of age. Thousands of male calves in the dairy industry are shot at birth, or raised for vealand slaughtered when little more than babies. All cows exploited for their milk, including organic, are killed at around five years of age, worn out from the continuous cycle of pregnancies and unnatural volumes of milk demanded from their bodies. Most pigs, chickens and turkeys have been selectively bred to grow so fast that their bodies cannot cope with the strain, resulting in heart attacks, lameness, joint problems, and bone fractures. Each year in the UK alone, more than 900 million animals are slaughtered for food. About 2.5 million animals killed every day, not including millions of sea creatures and other animals used for clothing, entertainment, in the pet industry and in laboratories.

Animal exploitation exists because of consumer demand, but you have the power to change this. You can stop funding the industries that hurt and kill animals. Choose veganism.
