Having won the CTTFAPremier League lastseason, our Under 13players have formed thecore of a very excitingFish Hoek Under 13 A sidethis season.
We've really stretched our players to develop technically, and to play quality, skilfulfootball. They've embracedthe challenge with enthusiasmand at times they've lookedquite sensational. In preseasonwe had good wins over strongsides including Old Mutual andthe Mr Price Academy, andduring our league season theprogress has continued. FishHoek U13 A's were the only sideto beat Ajax CT's team thisseason, winning both of our games 2-0 and outplaying avery strong Ajax side on bothoccasions. These phenomenalperformances were balancedby a few below-potentialperformances too, which is notunexpected in our first seasonin the Super League, and so our boys ended the season in 4
th
position – perhaps below whatthey were capable of, but avery positive year all round. Our Under 14 playerspredominantly played in theFish Hoek Under 15B side (whichis club policy), and didextremely well to win their league. Despite the club policyof playing Under 14 players inthe U15B side, a number of our academy boys ended upplaying much of the season for the U15A side and shining inthat team. Carl Van Rensburgachieved the extraordinarywhen he was selected andexcelled in three U17Amatches, including a gameagainst Ajax, despite being just14 years old.Every season the CTTFAleague chooses districtrepresentative sides for eachage group – the best playersfrom across some 40 differentclubs. This District team hasusually been dominated by theestablished academy sides likeAjax, Vasco, Old Mutual andHellenic, and Fish Hoek has nothad a player in a district teamin recent years. The progressour players have made wasreflected in the selection ofthree of our players to theCTTFA District U13 team, RionCuthill, Jesse Donn, andWandile Sicholo, and Wandilewas named captain of thisboard team, which was a greathonour.

“Moving Players… toa private schoolsetting created ahuge opportunityand a greatchallenge for them.”
By now you will know that while we continue towork towards the ambitious goal of offering the bestyouth football development program in Africa, ournumber one priority is mentoring these young playerstowards becoming outstanding men and leaders.

This is why the central drive in all our fundraising is towardseducation and school fees. Thanks to your support, our academy players have attended Sunvalley Primary andSilvermine Academy High School this year, and we areextremely proud of how they have embraced the challenge.Moving players from township schools, where some ofthem had not been taught in English before, to a privateschool setting created a huge opportunity and a greatchallenge for them. We were careful to work with the schoolsto provide extra tutoring, counselling and as much support aspossible, and 10 months in the boys are really beginning toenjoy their new environments and are thriving. The first two terms were positive, but really hard for some ofthe boys. They were stretched and challenged more thanthey had ever experienced at their previous schools, and attimes we definitely had to deal with complaints like “Coach. What do they think I am? A machine?” However, this has allbeen a vital part of helping the boys to realize that more isexpected of them than before because they are capable ofso much more than they had previously realized. We have recently received the school reports for the thirdterm, and what is very clear is that individually and collectivelyour academy players have made excellent progress in termsof the academics and in terms of adjusting to their newenvironment.
