though 3D wasnt my Artist Profile strong suit, designing a character that would be seen Stevie Lewis from all angles has made me a Vis Dev Artist at PDI Dreamworks be;er ar<st.

I try to nd out as much as possible about the character before jumping into a sketch. Some<mes that process involves gathering good reference, watching lms, and thinking like the character. In college, I took a class that talked a lot about archetypes of a character and how dierent shapes represent dierent personali<es and aFtudes. Hard edges in a characters design might reect on their tough personality, whereas loose, bent lines might represent a weak, fragile structure. I think about those things a lot when Im designing.
Stevie Lewis is an Intern at PDI Dreamworks, and has just worked as a visual Development ar<st on Madagascar 3. These images are from her sketchbook, She manages to capture something teenagerish in her characters aFtudes.
