Human Suffering
Martin Leonard Freebase
2I say that one must be a seer, make oneself a seer. The poet makes himself aseer by a long, prodigious, and rational disordering of all the senses. Every form oflove, of suffering, of madness; he searches himself, he consumes all the poisons inhim, and keeps only their quintessences. This is an unspeakable torture duringwhich he needs all his faith and superhuman strength, and during which hebecomes the great patient, the great criminal, the great accursed
and thegreat learned one!
among men.
For he arrives at the unknown! Because hehas cultivated his own soul
which was rich to begin with
more than any other man! He reaches the unknown; and even if, crazed, he ends up by losing theunderstanding of his visions, at least he has seen them! Let him die chargingthrough those unutterable, unnameable things: other horrible workers will come;they will begin from the horizons where he has succumbed!Arthur RimbaudMartin Freebase would like to thank the following individuals:Janet (Tossa), Haley (Boo Boo), Terry (Phoebus), Susan (Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair),Delbert & Amy lou, Gerald, Joe, Sara ( Boog is a woog) & Ben, Stacy & Matt, Lori &Craig, Debbie & Scott, Andrew R, Ed A, Mike & Sherrie, Flip, M &M, Edmon, CB & Sally,Tammy & Bubba, Larry, Moon, Duel, Ricky, Billy, boogie boy, Scotty O, Jimmy G, RobbieL, Skid Row Bum, Crime Dog, Steeverino (my nose is bleeding), the linebacker, WooFooTong, Henry Miller, David Foster, Miley Dragon, Too Much Noise, The Big Ten mile, BigTom, Little bill, Woozle, The Gangster Still, Woody, The Yellow Rose of Texas, Cinnamon,Walk Like a Woman, Big Bob (They call me Doctor Love), Todd Retodd the Barn Burner (Doctor Sex and Magick), the Used Car Salesman, The Evil Burger, Doctor Memphis(shake the hand that shook the hand), Doctor Stock & Trade on the Rosy Dale, Kramer,Gene Gene the dancing machine, Tom Tom Record Turner, Melvin the Lord is in MyEyes, Kurt the Chicken Chaser, Mike who slides down the steps, F-Prot Show Me whatyou got,Disclaimer:This book is a work of fiction. Author’s Note:
Depending on the day you catch me, I could say that I believe in destiny or I could saythat the idea of destiny is a blue-faced sham. One part on my mind is skeptical of suchthings and would respond that there is nothing outside of our genetic foundation andour social influences that influence who we are and what we do. I would say that thereare genetic inheritances that we have inherited from our animal ancestors and thatother aspects of our lives are the social creations of a socially constructed would. Iwould say that we are basically animals who have grown brains big enough to believein the lies that we have created. I would say that we as human beings, we havelearned to fool ourselves about who we are and our place in the universe. On other days, I can sense this feeling of purpose that secretly guides my life. Lookingbackwards, I can see how all the pieces have fit together to put me at this particular place in my life at this particular time. An old band mate had read some of my wordsand commented that I should have written the lyrics to our songs. I responded that
these words didn’t exist inside of me back then, that I still needed to read more, think
more, and experience the things in life I had not experienced yet. These words comefrom a lifetime of living and thinking and search for meaning in my life. I have this strongsense that my purpose in life was to write this book, which by writing this book my lifetruly has meaning. {Several days after writing this I had the strongest urge to delete this, but I decided to let it be.} There was an idea that I had to explain this, but it escapedfrom my mind before I had the chance to write it down. Thus, many words haveentered my head that never made it to the page. In this way, I have written this book many times over, you are only reading the book that made it to the computer.
