Matthew Thomson

When asked about his favorite part of being involved with Special Olympics, Matthew said, I love to practice and play. I enjoy

my teammates and coaches. I like to travel and I LOVE to wear my uniform!

Matthew Thomson has participated in Special Olympics for 13 years. Matthew participates mainly in basketball, but he has also tried softball and bowling. Throughout the years, Matthew has earned tons of medals so many that he is not sure of the exact number! Along with being a Special Olympic Athlete, Matthew graduated from Saranac Central School in 2004, and now works at Chartwells in the bakery at SUNY Plattsburgh. Outside of work, Matthew is the Assistant Equipment Manager for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals Mens Hockey team. As a huge sports fan, he loves being at all of the home games. Matthew enjoys watching both professional and college sports, reading, listening to music, and his most recent hobby is horse back riding. Not only does Matthew compete in basketball, but he is a vital part of the community. Matthew has a ton of support both from his family, including his parents, Jane and Mark, and his brothers, Evan and Connor, as well as his coaches, Ann Slattery and Cathy Taylor. Matthew is not only a male model for the Make-A-Wish Bridal Shows and the North Country Down Dyndrome Association calendar, but he is also currently one of the top fundraisers for the 2012 Plattsburgh Polar Plunge for Special Olympics New York!
