Procedures

Provide a more specific description or list of student/teacher procedures

Students will analyze primary source with the SCIM-C method: 1) Summarize- purpose 2) Contextualizing: why was it produced 3) Inferrance: why is suggested by the document 4) Montioring: whay other evidence is necessary to answer (need to read other works) 5) Corroborating: How do other sources relate to this one? First, students will be introduced to the SCIM-C method. The instructor will explain that there are five setps to the method and each step builds a deeper understanding of the primary sources. Next, the teacher will either ask the students to copy the four questions for each step or provide a handout. The students will be asked to read the document once without attempting to answer the questions. Then the students will be asked to read the document again and answer the questions for the first step. The students will repeat this process for SCIM. Finally, in order to do step 5 Coroborating, students will have to read additional primary sources on the subject and compare and contrast the viewpoints.
