Automatic Sound Signals Quality Estimation

Automatic Sound Signals Quality Estimation

Hello,

We are searching for partners to promote and distribute our product that
allows testing voice quality automatically.

We believe that our solution gives added value to other products as it is
not the so-called QoE and does not rely on real-time user input, and it is
neither based on MOS, nor operational parameters.

Our product is different and covers a specific area, BEFORE any
product is integrated and BEFORE one gets to the user experience and one
can easily integrate it to a large system as a DLL library for instance.

I can send you more detailed information about technical details and test
results on your inquiry.

Here are some differences/advantages we have comparing with ITU P.862
(PESQ):

1. In PESQ test signals must be speech-like because many systems are
optimized for speech and respond in an unrepresentative way to non-speech
signals (e.g. tones, noise, ITU-T P.50).

- we claim (and believe can prove) that our system works for non-speech
signals also, so basically one can test different spectrums, or if just in
case we get another frequency (out of speech band) in the channel that
will not affect our system.

2. If I am not mistaken in PESQ test signal is set by tester and thus
vendor estimations may very from end customer estimations.

- we don't demand that

3. PESQ works with speech only

- we can work with any audio basically

4. PESQ performs signal level equalization what theoretically is not that
good because when speeking different sound volumes may have different
spectrums.

5. PESQ has the so-called "disturbance processing"

- we don't have this and if signal spectrum is disturbed that will be
reflected in the estimation (will low it down)

We'll be happy to consider various types of cooperation, and we believe
the tool isdemanded and would very much appreciate your feedback!

Best regards,

Review of existing quality estimation methods
AI (Articulation Index).
The idea is that the whole frequency range ofspeech signal is divided into 20 bands and the signal/noise ratio isdetermined within the band. The band broad is defined in such a way, thatevery band contributes equally in speech perception. The signal/noise ratiois calculated within every band. Articulation index is supposed to be equalthe weighted total of the band values. The articulation index does not takeinto account the properties of hearing and speech production, although itdirects toward speech signal.
SII (Speech Intelligibility Index)
is the evolution of AI method. TheAmerican Standard ANSI S3.5-1997 includes the speech intelligibility index. It provides for 4 measuring procedures on different band groups:21 criticalbands, 18 one third-octave bands, 17 equal by their contribution criticalbands and 6 octave bands. The signal/noise ratio is calculated within everyband and the total SII coefficient, ranged from 0 to 1 is computed.Thespeech intelligibility index takes into account only the properties of hearing, not speech production.
