Andrews
were
honored
for
their
recent
actions,
which
resulted
in
the
saving
of
a
life.
Raytown,

Mayor
Bower
and
Congressman
Cleaver
held
a
joint
media
event
today
at
the
Raytown
City
hall
to
honor
the
three
Raytown
Firefighters
whose
actions
a
house
fire
saved
the
life
of
a
Raytown
Citizen.
Also
on
hand
was
the
mother
of
the
citizen
Reverend
Bobbie
Tate
who
also
spoke
and
offered
her
thanks
as
well
as
a
hug
for
each
of
the
firefighters.
Additionally,
Chief
Rick
Mawhirter
explained
to
the
audience
that
in
February
of
2012
the
Fire
District
issued
layoff
notices
to
nine
of
the
35
members,
two
of
which
were
Smith
and
Andrews.
With
the
help
of
several
members
of
the
Fire
District,
the
International
Association
of
Fire
Fighters,
and
Congressman
Cleaver
the
Fire
District
applied
for
and
was
awarded
was
awarded
a
1.2
million
dollar
grant
federal
SAFER
grant
in
June
of
2012
resulting
in
the
resending
of
the
layoffs
notifications.
