NO RESTRICTION SKIMMER BASKET WEIGHT
FIELD OF THE INVENTIONThe invention relates to a devise forpreventing a skimmer basket from floating andtipping over inside the skimmer well. Moreimportantly this invention does not add towater flow restriction and thus increasingbasket holding capacity, reducing basket stressand increasing basket life span.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONMost modern swimming pools utilizecirculation and filtration systems to clean themater therein. One component of the filtration
is a “skimmer” which is generally designed to“skim” debris from the surface of the pool. A
skimmer is a relatively simple structure whichinvolves a skimmer well positioned adjacent tothe pool with the top of the well lying slightlybelow the normal water level of the pool. Thereis then a waterway between the skimmer wellwall and the pool wall which allows the uppersurface of the pool water to enter the areaabove the top of the well.At the bottom of the skimmer well is anopening through which water in the skimmerwell is drawn by a vacuum pump through afiltering system, then is returned to the poolafter filtration. In normal operation, itemsfloating on the top of the water are pulled intothe skimmer well with the water. To capturethese objects and prevent them from going intothe pump, or into later finer filters, the skimmerwell generally includes a skimmer basket, which
is essentially a perforated insert or “strainer”
sized to fit in the well. The skimmer basket ismade of plastic, which traps leaves or otheritems which flow into the skimmer well.
Because of the skimmer basket’s shape, its
usual plastic construction, and the contents itmay capture during filtration, the skimmerbasket is somewhat buoyant. In operation, thevacuum pump is pulling from the base of theskimmer well, and the skimmer basket is held inplace by the vacuum created. Usually, for aprivate pool one only needs to circulate thepool water for a few hours a day to maintainwater quality. When not in circulation the pumpis shut off. Even for a large and public pool, thepump usually is shut off in the night to conserveelectricity. In other instances, the pump may beshut off to allow the user to remove a cloggedskimmer basket as trying to remove a cloggedbask
et against the vacuum pump’s pull can be
difficult.Because of it natural buoyancy, when the pumpis shut off the basket can float up out of thewell. This can lead to numerous problems. Forone, debris can get trapped within the well byflowing under the skimmer basket as it isfloating. Secondly, the skimmer basket can tipover while floating and deposit its contentsback into the pool, defeating the skimmer
basket’s primary purpose of removing the
debris from the pool.To prevent these events from occurring someskimmer basket manufacturers have attacheddifferent types of weights to the inside bottomof the skimmer basket. These weights do holddown the basket but they also add to basketstress by reducing the available area to allowwater passage through the skimmer basket. Thereduced passage causes an increase in pullpressure from the pool vacuum pump on theskimmer basket and also reduces the pullpressure from the skimmer well to the pool. When debris accumulate in the basket they toorestrict water flow, adding to flow restriction,

vacuum pull pressure, and basket stress, thelikelihood of skimmer basket malfunction in theform of a basket rupture, filtration clog, and orpump motor burnout and increased. As described above, it is apparent that there is aneed for a device which retains the skimmerbasket in the skimmer well, an improvedskimmer basket which can self-retain in theskimmer well without floating when the poolpump is off, and one that does not place aweighting system at the bottom of the basket, which in turn increases basket stress, likelihoodof malfunction, and reduced functionality of thefiltration system.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe skimmer basket weight comprises a heavymaterial having a density greater than 1.0g/cm3, being coated with a water proof coating. The skimmer basket weight is configured tohave a circular outer periphery with a hollowopening in a ring like fashion. The circular innerperiphery has a diameter substantially matchingan outer diameter of the skimmer basket rim atthe top of a skimmer basket. The weight may be attached or affixed to theupper portion of the skimmer basket, specifically on top, below, and or inside theskimmer baskets upper rim or lip. The weightmay be attached internally inside the skimmer
basket’s upper rim or lip through the
manufacturing process by setting or moldingthe weight into the basket upper rim or lip. Theweight may also be attached through themanufacturing process by setting or molding itto the topside or bottom side of the skimmerbasket upper rim or lip. And furthermore theweight may be attached to baskets upper rim orlip by means of place ties.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

101
) provides a skimmerbasket weight (
101
) which is to be used to holdthe skimmer basket (
201
) down and in place in
a pool’s
skimmer well (
303
), when the filtrationpump (
302
) is turned off to prevent theskimmer basket (
201
) from floating up andcausing the contents to spill.
When a pool’s
filtration pump (
302
) is turned on it pulls water(
304
) and refuse from the top of the pool intothe skimmer well (
303
), through the skimmerbasket (
201
), and into the filtration system. Theinvention (
101
) reduces the stress experiencedby the skimmer basket (
201
) in the form of

 filtration pump (
302
) suction stress (
301
)caused by flow restriction. Flow restriction iscaused naturally when debris fill the skimmerbasket (
201
) but can be caused unnaturally byskimmer basket weighting systems that areapplied to the bottom of skimmer basket. Thebottom affixed skimmer basket weightingsystems reduce the amount of passable water(
304
) flow that may be pulled through theskimmer basket (
201
) at any given time. Thereduction in water (
304
) flow causes increasedpulling suction stress (
301
) on the skimmerbasket (
201
) and filtration pump (
302
). Thestress level is multiplied every time more debrisis collected by the basket. The increased stresson these components decreases their lifespanand increases the probability of malfunction. The present invention (
101
) allows for naturalpump suction stress (
301
) and flow restriction. With the use of the invention (
101
) the skimmer
basket’s
(
201
) life span, holding capacity, andoverall functionality are increased as well asthat of the filtration pump (
302
) motor andfiltration system.The invention (
101
) is intended for placement inor on or
under a skimmer basket’s upper rim or
lip (
203
). The dimensions of the invention (
101
)are dependent on the circumference anddiameter of the before mentioned placementareas on the skimmer basket (
201
). Differentskimmer basket weight (
101
) sizes will beneeded for different size skimmer baskets(
201
). The invention (
101
) may be of anymaterial that holds a weight having a densitygreater than 1.0 g/cm3, is not corrosive orreactive with its environment of use, and ormay be a material that can be coated with awater resistant protective coating to eliminateany reaction with its environment of use. Theinvention (
101
) is symmetrical, circular, and ringlike in design except for in use that mayotherwise be stated. The invention (
101
) may be placed internally
inside the skimmer basket’s
(
201
) upper rim orlip (
203
), it may be placed as a weighted, symmetrical, circular, and ring like design and
then sealed within the skimmer basket’s upper
rim or lip (
203
). In a different embodiment of internal placement the skimmer baskets (
201
)upper rim or lip (
203
) may becompartmentalized and filled with a materialsuch as sand, concrete, or stone and thensealed. In another embodiment the invention(
101
) may be placed internally inside theskimmer baske
t’s
(
201
) upper rim or lip (
203
), inthe form of distance spaced weighted fragmentmaterial. If the invention (
101
) is to be place andattached above or below
the skimmer basket’s
 (
201
) upper rim or lip (
203
), it may be placed asa weighted, symmetrical, circular, and ring likedesign in the form of a cylindrical or squaredformation. The invention (
101
) may be attachedand secured to the skimmer basket (
201
) bymean of a noncorrosive ties or clips (
202
) or bya skimmer basket latch (
202
) designedspecifically to hold said invention. What is claimed is:
1.

A skimmer basket weight comprising aheavy material having a density greaterthan 1.0 g/cm3. A skimmer basket weightwhich can be used to hold the skimmerbasket in place
