Since 1998, Family Connection has celebrated children andfamilies in Easton. Family Connection is celebrating our 10thanniversary of service to the community with a children’s art showand birthday party. Both events are free and open to the entirecommunity. Come join us!As you know, Family Connection is not a traditional ‘organization.’We are a thread that links and supports children, families, schools,and the community. Our Programs for School Success:
Family Supportat elementary schools in the EastonArea School District builds family-school-community partnerships toensure that families have theinformation and support needed to beeffective and engaged members of theschool community.Parents Who Careis a family bonding and wellnessprogram that builds on families’strengths, develops positive parentingskills, and promotes fun familyactivities.Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP)is an early childhood educationprogram that prepares children andfamilies for school success throughweekly home visits over a two-year period.21st Century Community LearningCenter (CCLC)is an afterschool academic enrichmentprogram that prepares students atCheston Elementary School to meetstate academic standards throughhands-on learning activities andindividualized attention.All programs are offered at no cost tofamilies.
Preschoolers visit Fire House
Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP) students got an important lessonabout fire safety when they visited the Easton Fire House on November 30.Fourteen PCHP students attended, along with 24 parents and 7 siblings. After watching an informative video, firefighter Steve Kalvin demonstrated theclothing and equipment they use when responding to a call for help.Firefighter Chris Vaughn showed the students and families two fire trucks. Thestudents enjoyed looking at all of the features on the trucks.
Walk for a Healthy Community
The 4th annual Walk for a Healthy Community, presented by HighmarkBlue Shield, will benefit 13 local health and human service organizations,including Family Connection. Since Highmark Blue Shield underwrites thewalk, 100% of the money raised by walkers supports participatingorganizations. You are invited to participate! You can help by walking on June 14,2008, asking friends, family, and coworkers to sponsor you, or by organizinga team with your family, friends, employer, service club, or religiouscommunity.We have a lot of exciting prizes for walkers and team captains. Student Art Contest
In celebration of our 10thanniversary, Family Connection issponsoring an art contest open to allkindergarten through 6th grade studentsin the Easton Area School District.Kindergarten through 2nd grade willsubmit a drawing of something thatmakes them happy, 3rd and 4th gradewill show something they like about their community, and 5th and 6th grade maysubmit a depiction of their hopes anddreams for the future. Ten winners fromeach grade category will have their artwork displayed in the State TheatreGallery on Saturday, April 19 from 11a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The public is invited tothis event. Parents Who Care
The fall Parents Who Care groupended in December. Eight familiesparticipated; five were from Paxinosaand three were from Cheston. Familiesenjoyed meeting a guest speaker fromCommunities in Schools who sharedinformation about anti-violence andgang prevention on the last night. Alleight families received a 1-year membership to the Family YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg, and Vicinity at aparty held on Dec. 11. Dinner wasprovided and families were given agingerbread tree decorating kit. Specialthanks to the Family YMCA for hostingour fall Parents Who Care group.
Welcome Wende!
We are pleased to welcome WendeFazio to our staff. Wende will be theFamily Support Specialist at Palmer Elementary School and will also beavailable to support families at March,Tracy, and Forks Elementary Schools.Wende recently worked as a libraryassistant at Mary Meuser MemorialLibrary and also has experience workingas a patient advocate at a hospital.
We’re having a birthdayparty!
Family Connection will be holding acommunity-wide birthday party tocelebrate our 10th anniversary. Thebirthday party will be held in latesummer or early autumn 2008.Complete details will be in our springnewsletter.
Recycle for Kids
Family Connection collects used cellphones as well as ink jet and laser printer cartridges. All items are recycledand proceeds benefit school-basedprograms for children and families. Call Jessica R. Dreistadt at (610) 829-5819ext. 35075 to schedule a pick-up.
