How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?Prejudice to me refers to a person’s negative judgments or views about a certain groupmade lacking knowledge, thought, or reason. It is basically their first impression of thegroup in which is based on stereotypes. A stereotype to me is a negative generalizationtowards a group of individuals based on samples that does not signify or characterize theindividuals or group, which the generalization come to be so well-known, it comes to be a“conventional (predictable) image” for the individual or group in questioning, frequentlyacknowledge as truth by an irrational and unreasonable bunch of individuals. Stereotypescan also be a type of prejudice if it is negative in generalizations and detail. Discriminationin my opinion is excluding or eliminating a group of individuals from rights, privileges, or services based upon their prejudice or stereotyping ways towards other individuals. Allpeople can have biases in which contains stereotyping and prejudice; conversely when aperson acts on these concepts then it is considered to me discrimination.
What are the causes of discrimination?To me discrimination can be caused by several reasons, one in which is learnedbehavior. If a person grew up around the acts of discrimination and seen it practiced bytheir parents, then most likely the child will probably follow their parent footsteps and havethe same mind-set as well.
