CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENTSUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLSBARKHAMSTED PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Whereas the Board of Education of the Town of Barkhamsted, Connecticut (hereinafter
called the “Board”) has elected to serve as Superintendent of Schools in
accordance with Connecticut Statutes §10-157, and
Whereas (hereinafter called the “Superintendent”) has accepted that
responsibility to serve as Superintendent of Schools of the Town of Barkhamsted,Connecticut, and1.
The Superintendent is the chief executive officer of the Board. In harmony with the policiesof the Board and state laws, the Superintendent has executive authority over the schoolsystem and responsibility for its supervision. He has the general authority to act at hisdiscretion, subject to later approval by the Board, upon all emergency matters and those asto which his powers and duties are not expressly limited or are not particularly set forth.He advises the Board on policies and plans that the Board takes under consideration and
takes the initiative in presenting to the Board policy and planning issues for the Board’s
attention. The Superintendent or his designee as approved by the Board shall attend all meetings of the Board and shall participate in all Board deliberations except when matters relating tohis own employment are under consideration. The Superintendent shall receive notice of Board Committee meetings and he or his designee may attend such meetings.2.
SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION
The parties agree that supervision and evaluation of the Superintendent is theresponsibility of the Board.3.
OUTSIDE PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
By agreement with the Board, the Superintendent may undertake consultative work,speaking engagements, writing, lecturing, or other professional duties and obligations.4.
The term of employment under this Agreement is from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2014,except as this Agreement may be terminated earlier in accordance with the provisions of Section 7 below. The salary and annuity compensation will be set as stated in number 5 forthe 2011-12 year with a wage re-opener for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 years.5.
The superintendent will be paid $420 per day, not to exceed 104 days. The Superintendentwill work 2 days per week on the average. The Board of Education may approve additional
