President Barack Obama
“I’m asking the entire country to rally around a set o goals or our country – goals in manuacturing, energy, education, national security and the defcit… This is a real, achievable plan that will lead to new  jobs and more opportunity, and rebuild this economy on a stronger oundation.”
– President Obama
Reviving American Manuacturing.
President Obama’s policies have helped manuacturing rebound, creating nearly 500,000 jobs in the last 31 months. The President’s plan will build on that success, creating 1 million new manuacturing jobs by 2016.
Energy Made in America.
Dependence on oreign oil hurts our economy and imperils nationalsecurity, which is why President Obama has set a goal o cutting our net oil imports in hal by2020. President Obama’s policies have helped to cut net imports by nearly 30% in his rst termalready, and his plans to expand domestic energy production will support more than 600,000 jobsin the natural gas sector alone.
Growing Small Businesses.
Small businesses create two out o every three new jobs in America.President Obama has invested in entrepreneurs and small business owners by cutting taxes, helping them expand into markets overseas and working to ensure they can get the capital theyneed to invest and grow.
Quality Education.
A quality education is not a luxury. It is an economic imperative or good-paying jobs, a strong middle class and a workorce that out-innovates the world. PresidentObama will strengthen our schools by recruiting 100,000 math and science teachers, training2 million workers or real jobs at community colleges, and cutting tuition growth in hal.
Cutting The Defcit By More Than $4 Trillion.
We must return to the principles that madeAmerica great, rewarding hard work and responsibility. By eliminating special loopholesand tax breaks that benet big business and the wealthiest – as part o a balanced decitreduction plan that also cuts spending we can’t aord – we can grow our economywithout burdening our children and grandchildren with debt.
Putting YOU in Charge o Your Health Care.
Health care costs were skyrocketing andamilies were denied care. So President Obama passed a landmark law to expand accessto aordable insurance, letting young adults stay on their parents’ plan until age 26,eliminating lietime coverage limits, ending denials based on pre-exisiting conditions, and eliminating cost sharing and other out-o-pocket costs or recommended preventivecare.
Protecting Retirement Security.
We can choose a uture where we cut our decitwithout wrecking our middle class. President Obama has put orward a specic,balanced plan o spending cuts and revenue increases providing more than $4 trillionin decit reduction over the next decade, without ending guaranteed benets inMedicare or slashing Social Security.
It’s time or a new economic patriotism, rooted in the belie that growing our economy begins with a strong, thriving middleclass. Over the past 31 months, American businesses have created 5.2 million jobs. Independent economists project that oureconomy will create an additional 12 million jobs in the next our years. The President believes we must do even more togrow our economy and strengthen the middle class. The goal o his jobs plan is to strengthen middle-class security by makingsmart investments in education and training, growing small businesses, promoting technology and innovation, and reducingthe decit.
Manuacturing and technology are the lie-blood o middle-class amilies and key engines o the Americaneconomy, sparking innovation, generating higher-wage jobs, and strengthening entire communities. But wecan’t create an economy built to last i America doesn’tmake things the world buys.
Nearly 500,000 new manufacturing jobs since January 2010.
The American manuacturing sector has rebounded –led by the auto industry rescued by President Obama– ueling 31 straight months o job growth, adding 5.2million private sector jobs. Manuacturing jobs aregrowing or the rst time since the mid-1990s.President Obama gave emergency loans to rescueGeneral Motors and Chrysler, saving more than 1million jobs up and down the auto supply chain andpreventing the loss o over $96 billion in personalincome.President Obama created the National ExportInitiative to promote U.S. goods and signed Free TradeAgreements with South Korea, Panama and Columbia, removing trade barriers, expanding access to credit, and putting America on the path to double exports by2015.
Exports are up 36% since he took ofce.
President Obama brought more trade cases againstChina in our years than the previous president did ineight years and won every one o them that has beendecided. For the rst time in years, manuacturing companiesare seeking to bring back jobs that were sent overseas, according to the Boston Consulting Group.
“We reused to let Detroit go bankrupt. We bet on American workers and American ingenuity, and three years later, that bet is paying o in a big way.”
– President Obama
President Obama passed a tax credit or companies tomanuacture advanced energy technologies in the U.S.,supporting 183 projects in 43 states.
But there’s more to do.
A national goal to create 1 million new manuacturing  jobs by the end o 2016:
1. Reorming the corporate tax code to bring down taxrates – cutting tax rates on domestic manuacturersby nearly a quarter – while closing tax preerencesand loopholes to pay or it.2. Ending tax deductions or companies shipping jobsoverseas, and using the savings to create a new taxcredit or companies that bring jobs home.3. Standing up or American workers and businesses inthe global marketplace, taking on China’s unair tradepractices through a new trade enorcement unit tolevel the playing feld.4. Training 2 million workers with the skills or good jobs through new partnerships between communitycolleges and employers.5. Creating a new network o 15 to 20 manuacturinginnovation institutes to bring together businessand research universities to ensure that thenext generation o products are invented andmanuactured here.
One million new manuacturing jobs can put middle-class people back to work and give new collegegraduates good jobs right out o school.
“I will not stand by when our competitors don’t play by the rules. We’ve brought trade cases against China at nearly twice the rate as the last administration – and it’s made a dierence.”
– President Obama
